Ok.. seems to be an issue if, and only if, you choose NOT to display the smiley one. I enabled it and everything showed. I randomly disabled others, and all the rest show as they should. That was a bug I fixed earlier then made a few more changes and it came right back because I did not keep it in mind. The plugin has been updated to version 0.7.5(alpha) to address that so redownload and reinstall then let me know if you still have that smiley problem.

Brilliant Chris - thanks. Would I be right in thinking that the images I've uploaded in place of the default smilies, aren't showing because this plugin isn't finished? I jumped past this post earlier Rita but never came back to it, sorry... This would be because Proboards only makes that info available on pages where it uses the data such as the full posting page, a page containing quick reply doesn't necessarily need that emoticon data forcing the plugin to use a static copy. This is why it does not reflect any changes you may have made to your forum's emoticons. The best option would be to simply grab the data from the server using AJAX avoiding any extra steps, this however is forbidden so here are the other options that come to mind (in no particular order) - Ignore customized emoticons and claim this plugin only supports standard smiley emoticons.
A tempting option indeed for the coder since it is the least rocky road (yumm), however not so good for the user wanting to use their own images
- Create a new settings tab allowing smiley image overrides
A ton of work for the user since in addition to replacing images in themes they have to now duplicate that effort in a plugin. For the coder this is also a daunting task since the tools available on the settings page are "clumsy", so what maybe easy to accomplish with full scripting enabled is akin to trying to shell a pistachio nut wearing sub-zero anti-frostbite mittens when working on the plugin settings page where no scripting is allowed. - Monitor the forum for pages where that data is available and store it locally
This one requires no additional effort from the user but has the drawback of being only semi-up-to-date since it depends on how often a user navigates to a page where the data is available. A changed emoticon could go unnoticed for days given the habits of a compulsive quick reply'er who only occasionally quotes someone in a reply
Thanks for the feedback and bringing this to my attention, I'll think a bit more on this and hopefully come up with some more appealing options.

Thanks for your detailed reply Chris, I can't and won't pretend to have understood all of it, but enough to grasp that facilitating the use of images other than the default bunch is going to be a difficult task....

Plugin has been updated to version 0.7.6 (alpha)
with the new behaviour of grabbing the smiley emoticons from the shoutbox if it exists. This should allow it to reflect any changes made to the standard smileys from admin panel. Redownload and reinstall if you wish to test this change.

Wow I managed to add a custom button! So cool Chris. Now to work out how to add it to the normal reply I tried to do a style tag with background-color and color but couldn't get it to work, the second variable came up as named undefined and inserted in the tag after color. This may however be my beginner coding skills rather than your plugin or instructions.

Wow I managed to add a custom button! So cool Chris. Now to work out how to add it to the normal reply perhaps ... I tried to do a style tag with background-color and color but couldn't get it to work, the second variable came up as named undefined and inserted in the tag after color. This may however be my beginner coding skills rather than your plugin or instructions. Edit: Updated to version 0.7.8 (alpha) to address this "undefined" issueWithout the information of what you put for the attributes I can only reiterate what I placed in that help tooltip. - Examples:
width=80%|align=left|style:background-color=purple When the user clicks your custom button, if you had the above in the attributes field it would ... - add an attribute of width and set it to 80%
- add an attribute align and set it to left
- add an attribute of style then sets a value of purple for the css property of background-color
width=|align=left|style:background-color= When the user clicks your custom button, if you had the above in the attributes field it would ... - add an attribute of width and prompt the user for a value to set that width attribute
- add an attribute align and set it to left
- add an attribute of style then prompts the user for a value to set on the css property of background-color
Notes:
- If Proboards doesn't support the attribute or style property then using it will not work. The last time I checked, the attribute "class" and the css property "float" (just two examples) are not supported so using them won't work!
- each attribute (and its value if present) is separated from its neighbor by the vertical bar ("|")
- if an attribute ends with an equal sign (no value) then the user is prompted for a value each time they use the button
- If an attribute has no equal sign at all then it is ignored
- Unlike other attributes, style has the format "style:cssProperty=value", it creates a style attribute then adds the cssProperty specified along with the value, if value is omitted then user is prompted
That would depend on how you got rid of it... I've not enabled it. You could enable it then hide it by adding style="display:none;" to the template. with that change you'll be able to have your replaced smileys available on the page for this plugin to grab. Cheers Eton, This was on my 'to-do' list so you saved me a lot of time! Not fully tested it but it seems to be working fine so far. Thanks. I'd appreciate your input Pebbles, it's functional but not fully fleshed out (alpha)

You can still hide the shoutbox after enabling it if it wasn't clear
