I think it'd be nice to be able to give the ability to someone to mod just one thread. On many forums they do RPs in just one thread. The leader of the RP or leaders would then have the ability to mod the posts within that thread.
That one was actually something I thought of after thinking of this one. I understand if you guys aren't interested in the first option, but the second would be nice. It'd be nice if you could give permission for a certain member to mod your post. Like you make a post of a list that needs updated every so often and you give permission to a couple other people to edit just that one post to keep the list updated.

Individual thread modding gets far too complex to track and manage. However using groups you can still set up fairly elaborate ways to manage permissions on boards. We also would not allow a member the ability to designate who can (and/or can't) moderate their posts. It isn't for a member to decide such things. If that member is already staff then other staff with the proper abilities can already do so (if it's a common thing then a group can even be set up and limited to one board, again elaborate group management should you chose it). Decisions regarding powers who can edit are for the main admin to make, not members (or even staff in most cases).

IMO you're totally wrong on the post content, but I get the point that it's too complex so I'll drop it Personally if I post something online I know that the mods will have the ability to change it, however, the mods do not own what I posted and therefor yes, I should have the right to allow others to change or use my content if I choose to. I really do not understand why that would violate the rights of an admin (who could just disable the feature). Like I said though I understand the complexity

Let's say you create a thread. And you give me and 4 other people the ability to modify your post. In this scenario none of us are staff. I edit your post and say some really bad things because I'm trolling you, but it says I was the last to edit. Then another person who you let edit comes along and see's that. They edit your post to clean it up. But they miss some stuff. Or worse they add to it. Now there's a post with a bunch of really bad content sitting on the forum. A staff member comes along. Who do they punish? You? It's your post and you gave others permission to edit it. Certainly I'm not in trouble my name doesn't show up anywhere. Maybe it's the person who came after me, but then, how can we prove it wasn't you who typed everything?
The admin dictates who has the power to edit threads because they dictate who can be trusted on their forum.
But again, as I said, and you agreed. The logistics of tracking this for every single thread on a forum would get out of hand very quickly, not only for our system but also everyone involved. It's the same reason we don't have thread permissions for staff. Things are done by board or it gets too complex. If there is a handful of people who you want editing your content, then place them in a group and only allow them that ability in a single board. They can edit your threads there. If you would claim everyone in my example above was trusted by you then you would certainly have no issue doing so. If it isn't your forum, then it will be harder to convince an admin to follow your suggestion I think.
Edit: PS I love the Psych signatures. 'You know that's right!'

Yea, this would be a case where I wouldn't be a forum owner Just wondering, wouldn't the edits show up in the security log? Or has that changed in v5? Thanks I need to go back and add a few more quotes in...from Psych and other stuff i love
