hide avatars in profile settings

In v4 users had the option to hide avatars & siggys, but in v5 they only have the option to hide siggys. Why the change? Is there any chance you could bring back the option to hide avatars as well?

We don't hide avatars in v5. That's why there is a default forum avatar now. For consistency we made it so everyone has an avatar.

As a member you can upload a 1x1 blank pixel if you want.

As an admin you can pretty much mod mini-profiles however you want.

Thing is, Ryan Roos, some people don't want to see ANY avatars. Perhaps it's because they have an older system and it impacts performance. Others on my board don't want them because they're at work and they want to keep it a little bit more low key. Still others have sensitivities to movement, or certain types of pictures that may go against what they believe. There are any number of reasons that people might wish to hide them, and I don't think that it's fair for me to have to choose to have no avatars/tiny avatars across the whole system based on the needs of a few.

See, I misunderstood what the request was because it wasn't explained in enough detail. I thought this was a setting for the admin or the users own avatar. Which you can see there is no need for because an admin can simply edit the template if they wish. Or if it was the member they upload nothing (like the 1x1 pixel). moonbeam you explained it perfectly. I did not understand that the request was to hide the avatars of everyone else while you're a regular member.

I will add this to the list. No idea when it will get added. But it should at some point.

Thank you, Ryan. In fact, I made my own request for this some time back and I think you said something to the effect of "maybe in a 5.x release".

My coding admin has written a plugin in the meantime to hide individual avatars only via a drop down on the gear icon, which I've shared with Ellie. But I think it's a great feature for the future.
