Template System Variable Requests

To appease the powers that be (Ryan Roos), please request template variable here.

Here are a few requests so far:

Shorthand Registration Dates

Number of Board Viewers

User Website Components

Member List Count (or number of members that match filters)

Name Attribute on social_network

"is_staff" property on user objects (templates)

cat variable for boards/threads

Thread -> Post List $[post]: Add href, title, content, etc, rather than just link to thread.

User -> is_pbplus

Forum -> is_adfree

Board -> Display Name (in thread list template)

Read Count in thread list and thread pages

Total Number of results on search page

skin.id and skin.name for current_user

Total # Users online

$[user_groups_href]

Show Number of Results for Memberlist Filter (May or may not be a request for indexing purposes)

Number of search results shown on current page

For the friends info it seems we have [friend id,1] what is the 1? It'd be nice if that could be a 1 or 0 depending on if that friend was online, but for me they all just show up as 1.

I think they actually aren't adding them, but just saying "add what you can from this thread every few weeks"

When the dev does them they will post in this thread telling you which ones they did. Then they will make a new task for the next dev a few weeks to do after that. The cycle will just repeat every few weeks.

Today I added all the template variable requests I could find into v5.  I thought I'd give a brief explanation of why a few of them weren't added:

• Number of Board Viewers - support.proboards.com/thread/444064/users-viewing-individual-boards-homepage
• Member List Count (or number of members that match filters) - I had this implemented, but removed it since it wasn't consistent.  It would be accurate on the first page load, but since the outer template that makes up the members page isn't refreshed when a view is switched, the number never updated.  Furthermore, the requested data is already being made available through JavaScript, so it is entirely possible to replicate this functionality already, albeit in a slightly more roundabout way.  We're currently working on adding a pagination callback that should make this even easier.
  
• cat variable for boards/threads - Infinite loops.  Imagine template variables like this: $[board.thread.board.thread.board.thread.board.thread], only far worse.
  

The rest of them were added, and should be available after the next push, though in certain cases you might need to reset your custom templates to see the changes.


Edit:
The added template vars to watch out for are:

• user.registered_on_short
• user.is_staff
• user.social_network.title
• user.website should now act like any other link object (with user.website.href, etc.)

Hi Tim, does this mean the "number viewing a board" wont be implemented?
It's one of the 3 that hasn't been added, and for the other 2 you gave an explanation for them, for this you didn't. I even checked both links to see if you had replied to them, but hadn't.
Am I missing something (the reason)?

Total posts & topics in the last 24hrs
Average # posts per topic
Average # posts & topics per board

maybe some exist ?

Hi Stinky666

Like it said in the thread Tim Camara linked to, the last we heard VS Admin said we would be adding this feature back in. You don't need a variable to code a plugin for something that will be a feature again. I'll ask VS Admin today about this to make sure he created a task for the feature.

Most of those you'll need to wait for Tim Camara for answers.

RedBassett can add them to the list either way. This thread does keep going. In a few weeks Tim Camara or another dev will come and do any new variables in the list the way he just did.

I can tell you that for the users online in the last 24 hours that we are adding that feature back to the home page. So sort of like the viewing board variable you guys wanted, it isn't really needed. Because we're adding the feature back in (according to Martyn Dale ).
