How can I change my category backgrounds from color to an image? Is there a plug-in for it?

What specific area are you referring to as the category background? The rows of boards listed on the main page? The category title bars?

I´d like to change "Rules Announcements Help desk", "Houses" etc. to images.

Okay then, to change the background for those bars you'll need to go to Admin > Themes > Colors and styles. In the Visual Editor click Body (Content) > Containers > Title Bars and then you should be able to add an image in using the Background Image field. Note that this will change all the places that title bars are shown in the forum, if you want to change only the category ones on the main page then we can do that, but we'll need to do it a bit differently.

As a side-note, you can change the text on the category bars to an image by going to Structure > Categories and boards > button. You'd then add an image using the [img src="IMAGE URL" alt="NAME"] BBCode in the "Display Name" field.

Sure, add this to the bottom of your stylesheet (Themes > Colors and styles > Stylesheet tab) and add the URL to the image you want to use where shown:

.container.boards > .title-bar { background-image: url("URL HERE"); }
