I've discovered that the Karma System conflicts with adding Location to the mini-profile.  I discovered this when adding a Location display to the mini-profile to show flags for the Country Flags plugin, since I wanted to display those in the mini-profile.

The conflict in question, demonstrated by this screenshot, is that if you add the Location designation to the template for the Mini-profile, the Current Karma designation and the Exalt/Smite buttons show up twice.



Any idea why this is or whether you might be able to fix it so I can properly display Location in the mini-profile?

(For the record, everything was working wonderfully until I tried to do this.)

This sort of also goes along with the mini-profile area that I have been experimenting with. You cannot seem to be able to move the field to another specific place. I was testing this out with several plugins and custom profile areas. It seems that Karma wants to break, if it refuses to be chained to a certain spot.

Is there a way for you to just add a defaulted variable name to it so that a user can specify the location of where they want it to appear in the mini profile template?

I have been using this code to move the fields around for those specific areas:

{foreach $[user.mini_custom_field]}
            {if $[user.mini_custom_field.name] == "Karma"}
            <font color="#BF0000">$[user.mini_custom_field.value]</font>
            {/if}
{/foreach}

Course, even after I specify the value name "Karma" it will not work because that isn't encoded into the plugin for us to move around.

This might be able to solve some of the other issues that people are having when adjusting/customizing the mini-profile area.

When you work with that template and re-arrange things the Karma either appears "multiple times" (what everyone is showing you) or not at all. I mean, in the plugin you are telling it to appear at the "bottom" or "top" of every div area. So if you have multiple div areas in to separate anything it will create multiples of itself.

I have actually have to disable Karma completely because of the conflicts.  My membership was more interested in no conflicts then they were Karma, so for now it's gone.

Alright. Sorry for the lack of a response. I haven't had internet on my laptop for a week. I was using my phone. I will start looking into these issues tomorrow. And I will get back to you.

Plugin Updated. You will have to add stuff to the mini-profile and profile templates for this to work.

Some things that I did differently.

I changed the alert boxes for karma to look better with the forum.

Also, I removed the ability of changing karma from the edit profile section, now you just click their karma number in the profile/mini-profile and a pop up will appear and you can edit it from there.

I hope y'all like it. Sorry for making you have to add stuff to the templates. But it was the easiest way to resolve any conflict that was there, and accommodate for how each person wanted it placed. I couldn't make a million ways to do it with the code being ridiculously long and complicated.

If you find any bugs, then please let me know.

Yeah, it is very easy to edit the mini-profile template since you can easily build it using examples already written in. I am going to give the updated plugin a try now!

Works perfectly on my end. This was a very exciting update~ Now I just have to see if we can get money to work the same way. I will be testing out a few other things over on my site to see about placement but for the most part I am super-happy that this worked out.

(Shorty, did you need anything specifically on my site? I noticed you registered over there and was unsure why. It is approved regardless in the event you wanted to check something.)

Well you gave me a link as an example of what your forum was doing, and I couldn't view it as a guest, so I made an account, but it needed to be approved.

Oh, right, right. I sometimes forget that I block some things like that while testing.

I tried to see if I could break it by changing some variables (styling it, moving it around between divs and all that) and it stayed functioning.

Example:

I did notice that if you give karma through the mini-profile of a post it takes a while for it to show up. If you give it through their normal profile it shows up instantly. I figure this has to do with the cache's refresh rate on a thread post? I always do all my work with my browser never saving cookies and all that so that I can instantly note changes.

It might be something to do with "userKarmaNumber$[user.id]" I am looking into it more to see why/what.. I changed things around like this: <span class="userKarmaNumber$[user.id]">$[user.id]</span> and it gives two separate values (one is correct and one is not.) The right value instantly shows but then it is replaced with a different one after a second.

For instance, one person might have it show up as 1 (if I give them 1 through the mini-profile) or 46 (if I give them 46 through the profile.)

Not sure what that means or what it is trying to do. I haven't seen any other problems, which is great!

It wasn't noticed in the other version so much because everything loaded together. Now that stuff is automatically in the miniprofile, and only the number has to load you can notice the difference.

That's not the case. You are inputting something into the span. And then the code relaces the text of the span with the karma number. You see the id number first because it is automatically loaded into the mini-profile, and then once the code runs the line to replace the span's text, you see the changing of the number.

Great that you don't have any other problems. The only problem you are having is because of load times.

Yep, I had posted it over in his thread. I am currently timing how long it takes for the karma to be updated in the normal threads to reflect the correct amount.

I am really not too worried about it, I mean, to me most people won't sit there and refresh how many times just to see the one karma they gave someone. Unless they are a little OCD and want to see the value RIGHT NOW.

Hahaha. To me, I am not bothered in the least if it takes a minute or so to do it. My hope is that it at least refreshes before any large spam of time is up (sans several hours.) If it doesn't refresh after an hour I will post in the updated section below.

- Okay, it has been an hour and the karma has not refreshed yet. Should I try reinstalling it, clearing the data, and testing it again?

I know that the amount instantly updates in the users normal profile but the mini-profile seems to be having this problem.
