Yes - a link works until a post in edited.

I did notice in your post with the broken link that there's an   before the link. Having only one space before a link or having the link on its own line should prevent this from happening.

Yeah, they only show in BBCode mode.

But they seem to be causing it.

I've been doing some link posting on the test board here, all seems ok now, but that wasn't the case earlier (UK time) today - I'm confused.... no worries I can live with this minor problem.
