Okay I feel like an absolute moron but like I don't... how do you set a 'weight' or whatever to the dice?

Berry: Weighted rolls are specified using special range syntax. The rules are listed under "Weighted Rolls" in the OP of this thread. The syntax a bit complicated, hence I'll offer some examples here: The range 1-5w2,6w1 means "outcomes 1 thru 5 inclusive have weight 2 each; outcome 6 has weight 1". The range 5w10,10w5,20w2,50w1 means "outcome 5 has weight 10; outcome 10 has weight 5; outcome 20 has weight 2; outcome 50 has weight 1". Or you can specify weighted ranges just using a list of comma-separated numbers: The range 1,3,1,1,1,5 means "outcome 1 has weight 1; outcome 2 has weight 3; outcome 3 has weight 1; outcome 4 has weight 1; outcome 5 has weight 1; outcome 6 has weight 5". The range 0,0,25,75 means "outcome 3 has weight 25; outcome 4 has weight 75". In either case, it can help to make sure all weights sum to 100. That way the weight is equivalent to a percentage likelihood. For example: The range 1-10w5,15w30,20w15,30w5 means "outcomes 1-10 inclusive each have a 5% chance of being rolled; outcome 15 has a 30% chance of being rolled; outcome 20 has a 15% chance of being rolled; and outcome 30 has a 5% chance of being rolled". If you make the range dynamic so that users can modify it, you might consider using "Aliases" in VDice Advanced. This lets you associate simple words with complicated ranges. So instead of having a tag such as [roll=1-10w5,15w30,20w15,30w5]users could simply put in something like [roll=goblin-attack]and the plugin would know to translate this into the appropriate weighted range based on the rules you give it. Hope that helps.

elshlog: They look fine in my browser, but you can control the width of the dice with the width=X tweak in the "Tweaks" tab. For example, width=120, if the default isn't big enough.

Hi.
I just created my forum and installed vDice
[have to read through instructions to see how to format dice roller]
but i have a question - is there a way to get it to do open-ended rolls for games like RoleMaster?
thanks

Hello Virgil Sovereign! A few months ago you helped me set up dice on one of my RPG forums and that one's still running great. I downloaded the latest plugins of Vdice and Vdice advanced for my new MMO RPG site and I'm having trouble with the multiple dice (with custom images) not loading now. If I roll 1d6 I get an image just fine and if I roll 3d6 or 3d10 (they are both set up with custom images) I get "page not found" errors with my image hosting site. When I click to view the file error on any image of the three, I'm discovering that it wants to call out to the final tally after the equal sign. Like I rolled 3d10 and got =17 and each broken image of the group wants to find target17 instead of whatever dice made the roll add up to a total of =17. When I do not use custom images, there is no problem and the dice add up and display just fine. I'm wondering if maybe my variables (which I just moved from old Vdice plugins to these new ones) are outmoded maybe or something. Could you take a look on my board at miqote.boards.net? Like last time I've got my board set up to let you join it, Virgil, so that you can take a look! Thanks!

Not sure if others are having the same problem, but I tried to Download the regular and SDE versions of this, and both are downloading a 0 Byte file. Which pro-boards obviously can not use for anything, since it is nothing...lol.

Thank you so much for these awesome plug ins. This is one of those few plug ins that is essential for my site. You helped tremendously especially with the patch that helped with the previous die rolls.

I'd love to use this on my site, but I need some help figuring out some things. I can sort of get the VDice to do what I want(I understand absolutely nothing about the Advanced one ...), but can you set more than one die? Like, Say I want to roll one die with a range of 1-3 and a second die with a range of 1-6 with the two dice having completely different outcomes that I can roll separately(and get an outcome from each die).
I hope that made sense. ._.

WhiskeyWolf: Rolling two dice with two separate outcomes would either require some custom scripting with VDice Advanced (I'm guessing you'd prefer not to), with some creative HTML template use (I'm guess "no" also) or two separate roll tags. For example, it would be reasonably simple to have something like [roll=attack] [roll=bonus]produce one die (the attack die) with a value from 1-3, and a second die (the bonus die) with a value from 1-6. The only hassle is that clicking the "insert" button would only insert one at a time. I could post a runthrough on how to set this up. There are custom roll syntaxes that would easily give you the sum of rolling one 1-3 die and one 1-6 die with exactly the right weights for all values, but not the individual die face values. Finally, if somebody on your board knows basic JavaScript, the "custom rendering function" feature in VDice Advanced could also be used to solve your problem in two or three lines of code. You could get it to use the images you want, styles you want, and display the outcomes you want without fussing with the plugin configuration. The only caveat is that some knowledge of JavaScript is required.

Just wanted to say thanks again Virgil, we haven't had any issues since the adjustments to the RNG. We use it a lot and love it

So, I'm new to using proboards and everything, but I'm trying to get this dice roller working on my forum- if there's any suggestions you can give me on how to get it working, that would be splendid. Forum link: pokemoniridis.proboards.com/

itsyfabulousspider: Give me a description of how you want the dice to look and work, and I'll see what I can do.
