I've added this plug-in, but it's not working and we can't figure out why. I'm worried that by tweaking it, we may have messed it up. Could you help us out? We're trying to give members tha option of rolling dice up to 150 sides. Thanks! hogwartsthenewages.proboards.com/First, check that you've enabled the plugin in settings - all plugins are disabled when you first install them. Now, about getting the actual rolls to work, unless you use tricks with vDice Advanced, you'll only be able to let members make either one specific roll, or any roll they want up to 10 dice. For one specific roll (eg a 150-sided die), just set the range to what you want (in this case, 1-150). In posts, the tag for this is [roll] (no parameters are accepted). For "any" roll, set the range to "1-6*". In this case, the tag will be [roll=range] where range is the what the member wants to roll. If you really want to restrict members to no more than 150 sides on a die, but let them choose their dice within that range, lemme know and I'll post the parameters. You will have to have vDice Advanced installed and enabled to do it, tho. --Arek Oh, and the dice preview currently does not work as of 1.0.7. Please don't use the dice button or attempt to preview rolls in the editor. Use the [roll] tag directly. I'd post a fix, but I don't know what's causing it exactly.

Thank you so much, Arek! We were looking for the "any roll" range We're noticing it doesn't work on IE? (and yes, we still have a few who use IE)

There was a bug with older versions of vDice that prevented it from working on IE, but Virgil Sovereign fixed it - tested in IE8/9. Older versions may or may not work, so if your users are using an older version ask if they can upgrade or use a different browser. Hopefully updates (either of Proboards or of vDice itself) since then haven't broken it again, because I don't think I could fix it. I'm just a helpful user, mostly. --Arek

First of all, thank you for the hard work put into this plugin and thanks to all the extra discussion contributed so far in this thread. Everything with VDice Advanced is working very well on my board. I'm able to get modifiers and custom images and I'm really happy with it.
I only wanted to report something small for the record. It seems like --when I get a dice roll thread longer than one page --and I'm moving to the second page or --I move back to the first page of the thread
... then, I'm seeing a 'Range code' result that looks like 1d6 or 3d20-2 instead of standard results and images. It's a small thing, but I thought I'd let you guys know about it.

Incredible code, though I've run into a question. No matter the number of dice I put, if it's any higher than 10 they just don't show up. (So if I put 20d20 for example, only 10d20s are rolled and present in the final post) I looked over the thread and I might've missed it, but it 10 dice per post a hard cap or am I doing something wrong that I haven't noticed?

Virgil Sovereign has not been around in a while and a listing of his/her last postings indicate something a lot more pressing was occupying his/her attention. I however do see a mention of this problem or something closely related in the first post. Currently, accessing a page using the control bar (the floating bar at the top of the page) will cause the plugin not to run until the page is refreshed. This is a known bug owing to Proboards omitting global footers. I cannot fix it. Proboards is aware of it, and should undoubtedly have fixed it soon. There have been changes to Proboards made after this plugin was released that would fix the problem but the plugin would need to take advantage of them. Also I could be totally off-base on this but I have a vague recollection that some sort of link exists between moonbeam and the author so perhaps she can offer some insight(?).

All: I'm nearly done v1.0.8. I'll debug and deploy it tomorrow night. It should address all bugs listed in this thread, it includes previewable dice, and it handles dynamic ranges much more elegantly in the plugin config.
I had to drop a bunch of projects over the spring due to work, but I'll fix this and the SoundCloud player.
Thanks for your patience.

Quick update: Version 1.1 of the plugin is completed. I'd deploy now, but it's 4:00 AM local time. It will take one more day to update the documentation, screen shots, etc. and repackage the two versions of the plugin plus the two extensions (VDice Advanced and VDice Compatibility). I'll post here and tag every poster having expressed an interest since the last update. Version 1.1 significantly overhauls the configuration UI, making it simpler. It adds previewable dice (which were a pain in the neck to implement elegantly in the WYSIWYG editor >___<). It fixes numerous bugs, including some IE compatibility issues, dice not showing up when new content was hot-swapped into a page, and poor variance in dice values in certain cases. It should also be completely proofed against "losing" dice values in some esoteric circumstances (such as refreshing the page while quoting a post in BBCode mode). I'll also get the bad news out of the way: adding previewable dice necessitated radical changes to the way the dice compute stable random values (the old method used post IDs as part of the seed, but a post's ID is not available until it is created, which is understandably a major problem if the dice values have to be previewable). The result is that dice created prior to version 1.1 will either have different values (or if the 'hideolddice' option is set, will be hidden). I realize this is a colossal pain in the butt, and I promise it's the last time it will happen. If it becomes a major problem, I can augment the VDice Compatibility extension to force pre-1.1 dice to their original values.

arek, Nevada Mikado, BeccaD, havelock, and others having expressed recent interest: VDice v1.1.0 as well as updates for VDice Advanced are now available in the OP. I've also submitted them to the plugin library, although whether both versions of the plugin will be approved (and how quickly) is unknown. Many thanks to Chris for the heads up on the changes to the WYSIWYG backend (and for providing the alternate code in the meantime). Many thanks also to arek, for handling the many questions about syntax, regular expressions, etc., and to moonbeam for booting my rear and getting me to fix the plugin. I'll be around for the next few days to handle any of the inevitable glitches or regressions in the update. Hopefully there should be few to none. I've tested this release particularly thoroughly on FF, IE 9+, and Chrome. As a reminder (especially for VDice advanced): installing a newer version of the plugin wipes out all of the settings associated with the old one. Hence if you have special templates, roll syntaxes, etc., be sure to record them before nuking the old version of the plugin. ETA: Documentation has been updated and expanded, so it may be worth taking another look.

Thanks for this coding update and for tagging me! I need to ask a few questions of my board members to see how they'd like to preserve any dice rolls already made in a few important threads. But I should be able to add the updates in the next day or so. Will report back shortly.

Sorry if this has been asked before or if I missed something, but would there be a way to have weighted rolls?
Like... rolling 1-3 would be 20% more likely than rolling 4-6.
