Separating posts

I used to be able to separate the posts in the threads so they opened up and you could see the background between posts. I would love to be able to do the same again, if anyone can help.

This code was available in the previous version so I hope it would be easy for someone (knowledgeable) to do.

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

PS I don't know what this code is below, I have deleted but it keeps reappearing
