"You have been removed from this conversation" with the PM function can't be switched off. These notifications are bound to really upset some of my forum members though.
Is there a way to implement an option into the admin panel to switch this off?
Thanks!

This can be accomplished with a plugin or template mod.
Sorry but we won't be adding this at this time.
Thank you.

tindog I just saw you posted on the General Board about this too. I want to apologize if you feel like you're getting the runaround. We have different departments here and sometimes one department sends a person to another with the hopes that something like your idea could be a feature. That doesn;t mean it will be automatically approved once you get here though. We don't feel this applies widely enough to all forums. That is why it won't be a feature. I'll just touch on two more things really quick though. First, people need to be told that they aren't in the conversation anymore. Otherwise how would they know. We also believe that members should have the ability to remove people from a conversation as well. Obviously on your forum you can do as you please. Add or remove any features you do or don't like. Second, we will hold a meeting to review the sentence "You have been removed from this conversation" if you think it is rude, perhaps we will be able to find an alternative that is less blunt. Though short and to the point is very important with things of this nature. Otherwise people become confused. Thank you again.

Thank you for taking the time to explain.
So, how would I go about making this a plugin or template mod? Can you point me to somewhere where I can start?
I guess we have a different point of view on this though:
First, people need to be told that they aren't in the conversation anymore. Otherwise how would they know. Well, maybe the others went on to discuss something else they did not want to share with the person, or somebody used it butt a shortcut to switch to an entirely different topic discussed with only some of the people who shared in the previous conversation? The person who was cut from the conversation will then feel left out, because they do know. So, do they need to know?
So, I don't think reviewing the wording is necessary. The wording is fine.

So, do they need to know? Simply. Yes. Otherwise how will they understand that their replies aren't reaching anyone. Any replies you make once removed from a conversation are only sent to yourself as if you're the sole recipient. It's the same as when you use the PM system for personal notes and you message yourself. If you were in a conversation with other people and they did remove you for whatever reason, you should be notified (like we currently do). I think anyone who is very upset by being removed from a conversation needs a little bit thicker skin. This probably won't even happen often enough to ever be an issue. You yourself have been speaking purely hypothetically so far. We avoided the negative in v5 in a lot of places, with the like system for example (there is no dislike). We don't really think being removed from a conversation is going to have a huge negative impact on a member's emotional state. It's not much different than having a thread you're in locked. People don't feel hurt or rejected when that happens. I don't think it will be such a big deal. I'm not downplaying your request, simply trying to explain our side. As I said do whatever you feel is best for your forum. We just wont do that for all forums. I'm glad you don't think the text needs to change. As for removing the ability itself you can go to the plugins or template areas using the links above and make requests. I hope that explains everything a little better.

Well, on the forum I run, some actually feel hurt and rejected when a thread is locked. The admins and mods have control over the locking of threads, so we can do this gently, but with everybody's PMs we have no chance. As it stands, I guess I will have to do some programming myself. What I need is a pointer about where to access the code for this. I will have a look at the Plugin board for help.

I have had a closer look at the Conversation system and my solution to the problem is this Plugin.
