Hi Pharmerphil, If you have plugins installed on the forum, those will work on all themes old or new. In your admin panel navigate to Plugins > Plugin Manager. Once there, if you temporairly disable the "Quick Reply BBCode Buttons" and "Smilie Dropdown" plugins using the checkbox to the left of the plugin names, do they still encounter issues?

Hi Ricky..No I have not tried this. but will ..However,
in the plug in manager, I have the permissions set for the plug ins to be used only for my default theme.
I thought that applying the plug in to only my default theme, would eliminate it from loading for the alternate Un-checked theme??

Is he using Kaspersky anti virus if so disable it & see if that helps. Not saying it will but Kaspersky (I think its spelt that way)has caused lots of problems on my forum in the v4. After it was disabled all worked perfectly. Just a thought may be way off the mark. but worth a try thepride.boards.net

Hey Ricky Zyvoloski...
I met up with the member...disabled everything.. Only one small difference...
However..not in the editor,
he could see the polls...but could not vote. Before the upgrade I had 11 members that were dial up users Now, I have this 1 who is trying...and 9 who are M.I.A.
so, is there another way...can the load times be increased (Martyn was able to help with that in V4.5)

Thanks for checking back, Pharmerphil. If plugins are affecting it, the only other thing would be that the Javascript is being blocked and is why they see what they see on the posting page. Even though they may have javascript enabled in their web browser, it's possible that it is disabled elsewhere. Just as a test, since you noted that the member uses Firefox, can you have them temporarily visit your forum with Internet Explorer or Google Chrome and see if the same thing happens for them with either of those? Also just to clarify too, is he able to post and just not able to view the extra posting options? Or is he unable to post as well? For the dial-up issue, when the v5 beta first launched we had some complaints from a few dial-up users about getting timeout pages due to the long connection time. We have since adjusted things on our end to be more dial-up friendly. What you might want to do is send an email to the 9 members who are currently MIA just to check up with them to see if they're encountering any specific issues, and what they might be. You can send emails to specific members by visiting your admin panel, then navigate to Members > Email Members. On the next page, you can choose the specific members that you want to send an email to

Thanks for replying Ricky...He did try I.E and had the same issue... He IS...able to post, but has no posting options, he cannot see polls or vote... BUT I HAVE AN UPDATE... I am not sure of what his connection speed is using dial up... However, Although Proboards may have made V5 more "Dial up Friendly" Dial up is His problem.. He borrowed a broadband card...and he had full function everywhere..Unfortunately...he couldn't stay connected... The owner of the card was going to give him the card, because in their area..it (verizon broadband)...won't stay connected > coverage area is poor to non-existent Thanks Ricky for the advice, but I do know how to email the members... as for the nine members, I have emailed them from my personal email ... wanting to put a "personal" spin on the email... One could not log in..no matter what ..they re-registered (problem solved) One..told me they were too old for such new fangled...(expletive) (more than a few of my members (and two of the nine) are over 90 and not amused by change)
The rest I have not heard from
Back to "connection speed"... I would have been completely screwed if this was last fall...Prior to Us getting broadband.. Our connection speed using dial up NEVER exceeded 31.2 and normally was 21.9 kbps. In our area..Frontier only guaranteed 19.0 kbps.

Just to verify, was he using the broadband card on the same computer that he normally had issues with? Or was he also using another computer that had the broadband card in it? I'm not sure why connection speed would affect the ability for them to change the formatting or add smileys to posts, but once I have this verified I can check with our developers to look into further

Yes, I will check as to their provider. added: one of the few things he does see when he clicks reply is the "Add Attachment" button, clicking on it does nothing...Thanks Ricky I will get back with the provider name

Hey Ricky Zyvoloski.. his providers name is Copper.net
Ricky, I asked him about the broadband, and I was mislead, it was NOT used on the computer he was having problems with... he's coming at me with so much irrelevant info it's hard to sort out...
May I message You?

Thanks for the additional info. One theory that our developers had was that it's possible that their internet provider is using a web accelerator that might be filtering out those additional buttons on the posting page. But this was based on the theory that they used their own computer with a broadband connection with clear results; if they were actually using a different computer, while the web accelerator theory could still hold true since it does appear their provider uses one (according to this), we wouldn't know for sure unless they're able to try a broadband internet connection with the same computer. Otherwise it could be something that is specific to their setup. You can feel free to PM me with the further details though if you wish
