Editor question

One of my long time members (8 years) has a problem...Don't know if anyone here can help...But I'm out of ideas...
Only this one member has this problem...I presume it's on his end..
(somewhere between the Keyboard and chair)  

Ok, 
I posted a screenshot for my members showing them the wysiwyg options available..
  He Immediately send me a message saying he didn't have ANY of the options pictured...

He had Firefox version 3 
So I told him it was most likely his browser..update it!

He IS a DIAL UP user...so he had to go to work, download Firefox 18...and take it home on cd.

Still no joy for him...
I don't know a thing about F.F.18

But I asked him to check his browser settings ...and to look in his profile on the forum..
He reports back:

Enable JavaScript is checked in browser

Smilies are enabled in profile.

I DO see smilies in other peoples posts.

Additionally I upgraded to the latest Java. No change.

...look at his screenshot and see if you have any ideas...
EDITED TO ADD: He also cannot see polls

Does he have any addons installed that add extra security to the browser (i.e No Script)?

Is it just the Editor, or is there other areas (i.e what happens when he clicks the "Participated" button?)

Can he verify it's definitely a latest version of Firefox (Help > About).

Does he have another browser he can try just to check that it is Firefox that is the issue?

the addons I don't know, he just downloaded FF18...
The "participated" button I will ask him about (looks like it's visible at least)

I have already left him a message asking him to verify his FF version...
Another Browser...I'll ask him, if he does, it's probably outdated as his Firefox was

he works, I won't know till this evening, so check back please,
Oh and Thank You Peter for your reply, I just started using Ff 18 myself on a different computer, and everything works great!

Do you happen to have a Theme without any plug-ins enabled? If so ask him to try that Theme. Chances are the plug-ins time-out on Dial-up...

sounds like a possibility ..I can create another Theme without..
provided I can figure  out How to create a new theme without doing any harm to my current..Thanks for the advice..

That setting shouldn't cause any issues.

I'm wondering if it's just down to his connection.  While caching should solve it, maybe the files needed aren't downloading in time.  The JavaScript alone is over 1MB, so that would take at least 3 minutes, then throw in the CSS and other resources on the page...

No addons that add security, that I added

When I click on the "Participated" button, I see the past posts ok.

Can he verify it's definitely a latest version of Firefox (Help > About).
I checked and the version of Firefox I am running is: 18.0.2
From Control Panel: "Mozilla Firefox 18.0.2 (x86 en-US) previous version does not show

I tried IE - 8.9.6001.18702 128 bit Cipher Strength (same issue)

I need Help here with this.

After I upgraded, I had one "theme" that was not working out well..
I Disabled that theme.
I was wanting to get it re-enabled, and Not load the Plug-ins...
but cannot get it back for some reason, and I cannot delete it?? Any advice??

He can see the "participated pop-up..
so, maybe if I can get the other theme up and functional he'll be OK??

I'd hate to leave him out in the cold, a very loyal member...and I have other dial up users, who have not logged in since the upgrade...I don't want to loose members over this..
and if it IS a dial up issue...
THANK GOODNESS I upgraded to high speed a few months back (I can see now that our old dial up speed of 31.2 kbps. would have been trouble for me as Admin)

so, If there is any other work around I can do for him or any dial up user...let me know please...

You should be able to re-enable a theme by unchecking the Disabled box and saving the theme.

Thanks Brian, I tried yesterday and failed, this morning Success..

I re-enabled the theme, and since it wasn't working for me, I deleted it.

Now, I want to create a new theme...and set it so the plug ins are not enabled....

However... I am lost again..help please...

Any "THEME" related page I go to, and click on 

Create New/Import Theme

I get this pop up(red arrow):

It just means that, you can't untick a default theme because you haven't assigned any other theme to be the default, and of course, you NEED a default theme for the forum. Just simply select another theme from the drop down, set that as the default, and go back to your other one to make any changes you need/want.

You should just be able to make a theme from scratch by hitting the create new/import theme.
It should take you to a brand new page, with 3 options (create new, copy, or import).

So when you click the "create new / import theme" button, does it not take you to the new page with the above 3 options?

Ok, it does take me there now..don't know what happened earlier, but when I placed the cursor over the Create/Import Theme button b4...there was no highlight ..
Now there is and I am in the process of creating a new theme..Thanks to all

However, the Member in question tried the New Theme...which has NO ADDITIONAL PLUG INS...
and he still cannot get the editor to show...
What (if anything) can I do for this member??
