Because it's not going to get any more replies! Just thought it might be a nice feature.
RP's that lock finished threads might doubly like it as it would keep their participated dialogue with only active things in it.

If it's locked it can still get replies from staff.
Also if it's locked and not getting replies then it won't be causing 'new' icons to appear and it will quickly sink. But if someone was to go looking for a thread they recently participated in, which is a large part of the reason the feature exists, then they won't want threads disappearing just because they were locked.
We will be adding features to the Participated dialog in the future. At that time people can edit their own participated how they want. But we aren't going to make people lose functionality in the mean time.
If you lock something now then by your explanation it already has no effect on participated. It isn't a bother at all. But it is still a tool for many people.
Sorry but we won't be adding this feature at this time.
