As for only certain dates getting a reformat you can comment out the following line which tells it to only reformat the "ago" dates (dates that do not contain an " at ") such as "less than a minute ago", "a few seconds ago" or "2 minutes ago"

// if (time.text().indexOf(" at ") == -1)

That would then remove the conditional and have it reformat all dates at all times since it looks like you are trying to change the time or date string for all dates or times not just "recent" times

Commenting out that if statement worked perfectly! Thanks man so much for all this help! Chris

I saw that this thread spans 5 years. I was wondering if there is an updated code to show the exact time so we don't have to hover over it.

I've been using the code from page 1 on my forum and just noticed something off when paging through a thread. The timestamps are changed correctly when loading a page fresh, but navigating to a different page via pagination loses the "yesterday/today" label and styling on the timestamps.

When I remove the script, timestamps are displayed correctly per the default (example: "1 hour ago" in bold text to fit the "yesterday/today" styling). When I have the script active, timestamps are displayed how I want them on page load (example: "Today at 12:21am" in bold text), but revert to date/time after pagination navigation (example: "Aug 13 2021 at 12:21am" in standard weight text, like it doesn't realize it should adopt the "yesterday/today" label and styling).

I did some troubleshooting and removed every other instance of javascript throughout my forum, as well as disabling every plugin, to see if something else could have been messing with this code, but the problem persisted. Example on my test forum HERE (navigate from page 2 to page 1 and back to see the difference in timestamps).

Chris, not sure if you would have any ideas on this as the creator of the original code.

I'm seeing TWO INSTANCES of the script in your forums' source (one after the other) and in addition they are both older than the script posted on the first page. You'll need to address those issues first.

Edit:

It appears Proboard no longer includes the recent_time class in the HTML on the initial page load (or XHR load) but instead uses the code responsible for formatting the datetime to add that class. This script delays that code in order to mow the grass but that means the class it was using to identify recent dates is no longer there. A quick fix is to calculate dates within 24hrs and add the class prior to processing but the ramifications of doing this still needs to be explored.

Ah, that must have happened when I was putting all my plugins and scripts back. I did not have the duplicate script in place while troubleshooting, and I confirmed that my main forum does not have the duplicate script.

I can also confirm that I'm using the same script that's posted on page 1 of this thread. The only difference is the last line of code:

If there's other differences that you noticed between the script I was using and the script on page 1 that I did manage to overlook, please let me know.

That shortened line was the original and that was changed years ago to prevent the script spawning multiple versions of itself (every 15 seconds, via livequery timer sceduling) and eating through memory eventually causing the tab to lockup so it is pretty important
The script I just posted uses an expando property on the function to accomplish the same thing with a simple scope lookup instead of a function call but believe me it still is necessary

That shortened line was the original and that was changed years ago to prevent the script spawning multiple versions of itself (every 15 seconds, via livequery timer sceduling) and eating through memory eventually causing the tab to lockup so it is pretty important

Also, I just ran my forum through testing across browsers, and the new script breaks my footer scripts in (surprise, surprise) Internet Explorer (running version 11). It appears to both not work while also breaking every other script in the global footer. Is there a way to either a) make this also work in IE, or b) not run this script if using IE? If someone is still using IE as their browser, I'd prefer the forum to still function for them (which requires the other scripts in the footer to run), but wouldn't mind if smaller details like the timestamps were left as their defaults.

It looks like ie is complaining about the es6 arrow function so try changing the line if(!ac.afterSearch){ proboards.on("afterSearch", m=>{ac.func()});ac.afterSearch=!0; }Toif(!ac.afterSearch){ proboards.on("afterSearch", function(m){ac.func()});ac.afterSearch=!0; }

In fact you don't really need that wrapping function since its only there for debugging purposes ("m=>{debugger;ac.func()}"), you could probably do if(!ac.afterSearch){ proboards.on("afterSearch", ac.func);ac.afterSearch=!0; }

As for everything following it not running that would be because all those scripts are lumped into a single script block. The default behaviour of any browser once an error has been encountered is to skip the script in which that error occurred and begin execution on the next script (script being one that starts with <script> and ends with </script> whether inline or remotely hosted).

I personally don't see the benefit of lumping them in like that for the above reason and more poignantly because it cuts down on browser optimization options.

As always, you came through with the solution. Everything is working as intended across browsers now.

Hello, I was wondering if there's some way to always display the last time a member was online on my board all the time in a regular font. Currently, it says things like "41 minutes ago" or "3 hours ago" in bold if they were online within 24 hours. I've posted a screenshot so you can see.



Also, I don't know squat about any kind of coding or where to put things, so please bear that in mind when answering my question. Thank you.

Your question is more suited for the Support Board as I see you are not using the time code that is the subject of this thread.

However to answer your question:

1. Go to Admin > Themes > Advanced Styles & CSS, Style Sheet tab
2. Scroll to the very bottom of the CSS and on a new line add this code:

abbr.time.recent_time {
   font-weight: normal;

That got rid of the bold part - which is good - but what I want is a way to give the month, day, year and time of the last time each member was online. So if they last logged in at 8pm and it's now 8:05pm, I want it to say "January 10, 2022 at 8:00pm", not "5 minutes ago". (Alternatively, "Today at 8:00pm" would work too.) Sorry if I wasn’t clear before.
