Hi, Would you happen to be using any sort of blocking software? Specifically any sort of ad-blocking software? This also may explain the issues that you've been experiencing. If so, try disabling it and see if you are still able to recreate the issue.

All not working again today I dont have any blocking software running on Safari, and this problem is not just effecting me. This is Safari on OSX, correct? I have a Mac here at the office that I'll test this on and let you know if I'm able to reproduce this. Update: I was unable to replicate this on OSX with Safari either. Could you do a favor for me? Access Safari preferences using command+, and go to Security. Check to make sure that Javascript is enabled. It would be worth checking to make sure that cookies are enabled for your forum as well. If the problem still persists after this, also check to see if you have any extensions, and then disable them and see if that resolves the issue. All the features that you've mentioned use Javascript, so Javascript and your browser aren't playing nice for some reason, I'm attempting to discover why.

Safari Version 6.0.3 Enable Java YES Block cookies - From third parties and advertisers. Dont have any extensions.
Yeah seems to be javascript. Is it due to the adverts I have running on the forum? are they conflicting with something? do I need to add something to fix it, if thats the problem?

There should be two separate check-boxes, one for Java, and another for JavaScript. I mention this because you only made note of Java being enabled.
I doubt that it's the ads, but if this resurfaces, you could try disabling them for a period and test to see if that fixes the problem.
Did you do anything specific before it began working again?

Yeah, sorry both Java and Javascript are ticked. No, I did nothing before it started working again, I just went back there again it was all working. I have other forums without those adverts so next time it happens I will see if they are affected in the same way. Thanks again Michael I will let you know when it happens again.

Hi Michael, Its doing it again now. I have those adverts running on two different forums and they are both having the same problems at the same time. I have other forums that dont have the adverts and they are all fine, so it really does look like its the javascript with the adverts effecting the javascript of the forum, but only sometimes. Can you try viewing the forum with IE9 as I hear everyone viewing the forum with IE has problems, but the new IE10 is ok. banksyforum.proboards.comFrom what I can make is its something to do with javascript frames for the forum effecting the adverts? Any ideas on how I can fix these problems? coz I know thousands of people are not using the forum due to the IE9 problem. Thanks again Michael

Hi,
After checking out your forum in IE9 it appears the eBay tables that you have at the top and bottom are breaking, and escaping all over your headers and footers. I looked at it and wasn't quite able to figure out why? Do you just get a code from eBay for those? I know it looked just fine on your old v4 forum, but I think that was a different code, correct?
You may want to inquire with eBay about this.
In regards to the ads, it does appear to be javascript related, I'll bug a dev to see if they can find out why.

Yes the codes come from ebay and its different than we used on the v4 version of the forum, but I would really like to stick with these if we can fix the problem. When I first added the codes it seemed to give a few javascript problems but I found a code - $.noConflict(); - online that I included into the ebay code that seemed to fix the trouble, but maybe thats not working all the time for some reason. I asked on the ebay help forum and people there said it was to do with frames and the code of the forum sort of over riding the code of the adverts and creating a conflict. Im hoping its just a tweek in the forum code somewhere that will fix that problem? Im hoping your experts there at Proboards can tell me what changes I need to make to fix the conflict Thanks

I'll get Brian to take a look at this and see what he can pull out, this is definitely more of his area. Update: I spoke to Brian and one of the developers, they agreed that there isn't anything we can do to fix this on our end, I would ask eBay for further support about this. Update 2: It appears eBay is using an outdated version of jQuery, this might explain the issue. Update 3: Is there an update to this from eBay? You might want to look into this also.

joshkeyes.proboards.comI just changed back to the old style adverts on the above forum at the foot of the page and you can see even with those the forum code is over riding thing and messing it up Those adverts worked fine back on V4. Surely its something different in V5 thats just not allowing these codes work. I hoped V5 would be a step forwards, and I keep hoping that it will be, but so far it feels like it has lots of problems behind the scenes that makes me wish I was still back on V4. I have looked around here on the support board and to me it looks like many of the problems other people are having are to do with javascript on V5. The advert codes Im using must be used on thousands of websites all over the world, and they worked fine on V4 before, so I cant understand why something as standard as that should now not work properly on V5.

Hi, Newby. jQuery is a programming library that's used on thousands of sites on the world wide web. As such, it also receives revisions and upgrades every now and then for new features, bug fixes, and functionality improvements. Considering the widespread use of jQuery and the fact that it needs to be manually implemented into a site, remember that there's several different versions that are currently being run. With each new revision, more changes are made. Things that worked on older versions of the jQuery library may cease to function on newer versions. With that in mind, your eBay widget includes a link to an external script it's dependent on that provides the code necessary to run jQuery 1.6.2. A lot of ProBoards V5 functionality also runs on jQuery, except our version is 1.7.2, which is more up to date and compliant with web standards than a previous version would be. It simply boils down to eBay's widget being dependent on outdated code. If jQuery is already implemented into a multitude of sites to run their own functionality, don't you think eBay's widget should comply with that possibility? I don't think it's fair to say that we need to downgrade V5 to be compliant with something that's outdated. They should either have multiple versions of their widget that can run on different versions of jQuery or they should release a widget that isn't dependent on something that varies from site to site. Facebook, Twitter, and several news sites seem to manage this with their own widgets.
