Hello developers,
I am frustrated. Why is it not a feature to be able to get email notifications when a new thread is created or a new post is posted. Yes, on a forum with 1000's of users that may be understandable. But, why isn't it at least possible to get that kind of notifications when one of your friends has created a new thread or post?!?!?! If it would be a feature that you had to pay for, I would be willing to do that.
So, it this feature coming? If not, please explaing why such a elementary feature will not be included.
Best regards
/Anders

Hello andersI am sorry that you are frustrated. As you already realized a notification for every thread or post would quickly get out of hand. However you do already have certain options. You can already be notified when there are new posts in a thread. You simply need to bookmark it. Then every time someone posts you can receive a notification. You are correct however that there is no way to be notified when people create new threads. This is for two reasons. First, we respect the privacy of members. We support no features that allow one user to stalk another. Second and more importantly even just allowing every user to receive notifications from every friend every time a thread was created would still be too many notifications. What if you were friends with everyone on your forum? How would that be different than if we just let you pick users to follow and get notifications. Or notifications for specific boards, or the entire forum. These would all generate too many notifications and can be abused. So you already understand the reason why this does not exist. You mentioned it in your post. This feature is not coming. Please do not assume that something is elementary just because you think it is simple or obvious. Behind the scenes there is a lot more going on than you can imagine and we have already considered things like this. Best regards Ryan

RedBasset,Thank you for your quick reply. I can agree on the scenario that you gave about spambot and stuff. However, for me and my group the situation is different. We are closed forum with 5 members. We will use the forum as our "home base" for our projekt. We have decied to use the the forum, since we will have a much better structure and overview then the regular mail-chaos that we usally have. We are a very mobile group on multiple platforms per person, and many times we use non personal computers which aren´t suitable for RSS (we are in a research enviroment). The common thing for us is that we always check our mails, and therefore it would be super convenient to see in the mail if it have been any activity on the forum. I guess we are not the typical users. Regards /Anders

Ryan,
Yes, but what if proboards could offer a paid service for closed "supergruops" that want to use the proboard in a more professional way for a project or something simular, and with say 20 (or any number that seems reasonalbe) as maximum number of users where such special features would be availiable. Then the risk of stalking and MASSIVE emailing would be due to spambots or 1000's creating post and threads of users would be eliminated.
I know I am nagging, but overall the Proboard is good product. It´s just that such a feature would have made it a great product for us.
Keep up the good work
Regards
/Anders
