Well, I can't figure your issue with the ad, but I found a solution to my issue of the forum moving when in a thread. My issue was solved by setting the wrapper in a absolute position and putting right: 20px; for the position. But I just don't think the ad is in your wrapper or something. I just don't know.
Just post in general discussion. It's either your layout or like you said, something with the related stories bit.
