Able to send a PM to a deleted member

2) What happened, in detail?

While searching for a post from a deleted member account (happened just yesterday, after she created a second account when she couldn't get in with her original account), I noticed that the "Send PM" link was below the deleted member's name.

I decided to try and see what would happen if I tried to use the "Send PM" function for a deleted member. 

I clicked the link and was taken to the Create Message box.  I created a message and clicked the Create Message button on the bottom right and it appears to have been sent.  To an account that has been deleted!

The message appears in my outbox with only me listed as a recipient, so I don't know if a message was actually sent to the deleted account.  It certainly did not appear in m own inbox, BTW.

3) What do you think should have happened instead?

First I expect there NOT to be a "Send PM" link below a deleted member.
Second, I expect that an error message would occur when sending a message to an account that supposedly does not exist.

4) Can you reproduce this on every pageview?

The 'Send PM' button in the mini-profile is a plugin, I think this has something to do with the fact that the deleted member shows up in the PM search, because any other search on your forum returns no results (member search, no profile, etc.).

I'll get a dev to poke into this though, its weird that a deleted member should show up as a searchable result period, even if the plugin broke something.

When in the admin panel trying to add people to groups, I get deleted members when searching.

Actually this is a good thing.

By being able to search deleted members, you can later use the ban function, or delete all posts by that particular former member.  You couldn't do that in v4.5.  This will make it so much easier if a former member has worries about stalkers or whatever & ask the admins to delete their posts AFTER they have already deleted their accounts.

This is also being discussed! I'm sure we'll figure out a nice middle-ground solution.

Even though I can no longer search for the deleted member (which I DID Like), I can still send a PM to the deleted member via the mini-profile on the post made by the former member which still remains on the forum. 

This really should not be an option, as our members might find that confusing.

Here is another deleted member account that still has 'Send PM' attached to the mini-profile next to the post made prior to deleting the account:



This send PM link also appears on any PM's received from that member in my inbox.

You would have to fix that as you added that in yourself. Try wrapping the Send PM link in this.
