Thread Prefixes

Is there a plugin/feature/code that allows admin and moderators to easily set customizable prefixes for threads, such as [Solved], [In Progress], [Rejected] and things of that nature from a dropdown menu or other means?

The prefixes could appear directly next to the thread title, or off to the side of the thread similar to the image below (preferably not both).

We actually use this extensively here on support, and it's a built in feature.

Admin > Structure > Categories & Boards, click on a board name, hit the "Edit Properties" button that appears, under the "About" tab in the pop-up that appears, you'll see "Labels" at the bottom. You can add labels, set their color, and specify who can see them.
