lol that's just it though, the only thing I'll gain from your code is knowledge of how to do what I need. your code will help me structure my code, and associate the variables properly. right now, I've not even programmed a single plugin, so I have no idea of the interface or how to use it. I've watched the 3 videos posted which gave me a little info about looking into the things... but I'm not a risk-taker and don't want to risk screwing up my forum because I've played with the wrong variable. (did that to my registry once and almost had to reinstall windows because of it) as for being a "better" coder... I don't look at myself as any greater than anyone else... I just have more experiance in dealing with highly complex systems, and know how easy it is to screw something up. I'm sounding like an idiot aren't I... XDD Perhapse I should get a little familiar with the code of my forum before asking others how I should go about creating a plugin.

oh dang I didn't even know about that. thanks sorry Todge for what seemed like I was creating a rucus over it. I truely didn't mean it that way. this is an awesome project you have here, and I hope to see it grow. EDIT: oh I see why it wasn't reccomended... it uses a direct interface with a variable to add smileys to. where this plugin succeeds at making it easy for all users. to put it simply, yes the plugin you reccomended IS what I want... but only I can use it... EDIT2: oh wait no... it's global... everyone can see my smileys... dang. what I'm looking for, if anyone knows: each user will be able to customize their own catagories of their own emotes. they will also be able to create a global catagory which can be overridden by the local catagories. and will also be able to override the forum's default emotes. - forum emotes -- user global emotes (overrides forum) --- user catagorized emotes (overrides global) the affect is local to the user's posts (including existing posts) EDIT3: the whole idea mainly revolves around Role Play (RP spelled out for those who don't know ) and allows users to customize specific sets to be readily available for those characters. From what I can see, the plugin you are suggesting would be a cross between the personal smilies and the awards system.. The only downfalls that I can see is that your members would need to build up there own off site database of smilies, and that the smilies would need to be numbered, as JS can only access links directly. It cannot scan a folder to find a list of images like PHP for example.

Version 1.1.5 available, updated to allow room for oversize smileys in the drop-down.

Forum URL: pondfriends.boards.netv1.1.5. There seems to be a problem with smilies not going into posts. Clicking on them from the "Insert Smiley" doesn't load them into the reply box. I had the problem, but it's working again, though others are still having the problem.

Are you and your members using different browsers?
Also, could you open a part of your forum so that guests can post please.. I need to see the posting page to find any problem.
Thank you.

Hi Todge, I have a member who is having wierd issues, that I have discovered are being caused by the personal smilie plug-in. To my knowledge, she is the only one having this issue. firthsisters.proboards.com/This is her original complaint: "I have a problem! Help needed please!! I can no longer delete my posts. I tried posting in the TRM Berwick thread yesterday mostly unsuccessfully!! All I can see on any of my posts in the top right hand corner is Quote or Edit or Add Attachment. There is no cog wheel icon or scroll down and options menu or a delete button. I've been using an Apple MacBook Pro computer and an iPad but both show the same! Clicking on the edit button only lets me edit and do nothing else!! Another problem... I can't preview my posts. What is the BBCode? Previously I've had no problems with this. I've tried using two different browsers Safari and Chrome but both do not show delete options. I've checked the Pro Board forums for help and it seems there are problems with plug-ins on Macs and iOS . There are also other issues and bugs involved!! All my plug-ins etc are up to date!"

I just now got around to installing this plugin Todge, and it's not working for me at my regular site. It worked for awhile at my test site and then the emotes got humongous. I am using IE10, but I tried it in FF too and same result, I just get a little square white and black box. hootyowl.proboards.com/There is a guest thread at the top of the site. If you need to be made an admin, just let me know.

That is strange, as the plugin should not effect posts directly. Do you have the Quick Reply activated? If so, could you try de-activating it and see if that fixes up the issue with the Quote/Reply buttons.

Hello, Todge. Thank you for the response. Ok, so I tried that, I am still getting that small white square. At first, it seems like it is going to work because the emote will show up in the Visual, but when I press the enter Reply, all I get is the white square. I don't know if there is any connection or not, but I seem to also be having a problem with the drop down working in QR, it seems inconsistent.

It's the inconsistencies I can't fathom out. Codes usually work or they don't.
For a code to stop working means there must be something different on some of your page loads. Strange indeed.
If you disable the Smilie Dropdown code does the Personal Smilies code then behave? Or still act up erratically?

I've got a bunch of people at my site right now, and I didn't want the freak them out with me turning stuff off and on, so I went to my test site. It's on MM, though. happyowl.proboards.com/I moved the plugin above the drop down and the personal smilies are working in the regular reply area and QR area. So I turned the dropdown back on and now it seems to be working also. I'm now anxious to get back to my regular site and do some experimenting! I do have a teeny tiny problem. I recently created a black and gray theme for the members. It took me about a minute to realize why I couldn't see my link in a post, it was because the link was black. How do I change that link color to the emote, Todge? I tried changing the colors in the color option but that doesn't work?? ETA: I'm not the only one who has plugins being erratic in the past week or so, some of my friends are having the same experience. ETA2: Ok, just tried it on my regular site and the Personal Smilies are not working. They would not show up at all in a post with the drop down turned off, with the drop turned on, the image showed up in the post, but was a white box when the post was actually entered.

That's another strange problem.. If you can see the image correctly in the Visual side of the editor, then the image should be posted as-is.
Would it be possible for you to try out the latest version of the drop-down code? Disable your existing one first, do not remove it as I may not have a working copy to give you, then add the new one, copy in your smilie array and see what happens.
