In reference to the V5 Beta version of my forum, in the Admin Home > Structure > Categories and Boards, I assume the viewing and apply a label - refers to the field label - but what is the significance of these two settings please?

Being able to view a label will let the specified groups see the label when it is applied to a thread. Being able to apply a label will let you add the label to a thread. If you look at the Testing Board on this forum, you'll see an example of a label that can be viewed by members, but cannot be applied by members.

Thank you Brian, still early over here is WA - what purpose would this serve - what sort of labels would you want to put on a board?

On the support board we apply labels for such things to get an admins attention where Gmods/mods can't help (label 'admin' ) or things like 'resolved' etc You can also use them to categorise threads, and be able to search by label

Thank you Brian, still early over here is WA - what purpose would this serve - what sort of labels would you want to put on a board? It all depends what type of forum and boards you have. For instance, on here, ProBoards Support, in the Plugin Request sub-board, they have labels for: "In progress" and "Complete". To show people (other coders etc) that the code has been complete, or is in progress. Edit: Patrick beat me

If you're unaware already, when you're inside any board, if you click the following , you get many options for searching. To search by labels is one of those options.
