As it says on the tin You can bump a thread so it appears on the recent threads list but it'd be great to be able to bump a specific post so it appears on the recent posts list. Thanks!

doesnt that kind of negate the whole "recent" label then?

Sorry, but that's not how bumping works. When you bump a thread you are bumping a thread. It moves the thread upwards, literally. You can't bump a post. It doesn't go anywhere. That isn't a property that can be applied to a post.
Maybe this one is easier to understand. You're basically requesting the equivalent of this.
Ryan, can you make it so we can lock an individual post?
And my reply would be similar. You can't lock a post. A post doesn't have that property or ability. That doesn't even makes sense in the context of what locking does.
Same would go for Sticky a post, or make a post Falling.
These are all thread properties that can only be applied to a thread because of their literal nature. A thread locks preventing more pople from posting in it. A post can't stop someone from posting in it. That doesn't make sense. Same as sticking a post, or bumping a post.
I understand why you're requesting it with regards to the recent posts list, but it just doesn't work that way. You don't need to explain further. I get it. Threads have their own unique timestamps separate from the opening post. That timestamp gets updated when you post or bump the thread. A post's timestamp can't be updated just so it can be more recent in the recent posts list. It would mess up how the post is ordered and tracked within the thread. Post timestamps don't change.
I hope all that made sense to you. If you have further questions about how things work I'd be happy to answer them, but I can tell you this won't be changing.
Thank you.
Edit: As Wormo also pointed out. If you can alter when a post was really made for the recent post list, then the recent post list really isn't recent posts at all. Defeats the purpose.

We have threads with lists in that get updated, and sometimes it'd just be nice to be able to draw those specific posts to peoples attention by having them reappear on the recent posts list. Or ones that are the last or only in a thread they can be reposted, but for ones that we want to stay in order that doesn't work. Thanks for the thought though

if the lists are that important, you might just consider editing the home page template and put the links as static links there.
