Adding a floating "return to top" icon to threads pages?

Not sure if this would be something in the plugin or the template code side, but I'm wanting to place a small floating icon image to the bottom right of the page when viewing any thread. Clicking on that icon (an up arrow) would take the viewer back to the top of the current page, thereby eliminating the need to scroll back up to the top for access to the title menus after they get to the last post (if they don't want to post a reply and want to return to the site navigational menus). Any thoughts on the direction I should be looking for such a thing?

As it happens, there exists a plugin exactly as you described, written by Aaron, by the name of "Back to Top"! You can find that plugin here, and our plugin index can be found here. 

I like this one because it fades away when unneeded.

Excellent! I had scanned over the plugin index before posting, but missed it. We'll give it a whirl and see how it does.
