Clicking on a "smiley" deletes the text in a post

For no apparent reason all the text I've written in a post is deleted if I add a "smiley" or insert a video  the end of a post. I'm using safari as a browser on a mac powerbook. Any ideas?

PS ..The Mac is OS X version 10.6.8  Safari version 5.1.8

Was this a problem with ALL smileys or just the custom ones? This would appear to definitely be a Safari problem. I would also guess that you can't update Safari to version 6 because of the restrictions on Safari versions on older versions of OSX (which is limited based on the fact that you're using a Powerbook). Correct?

Thanks for the reply...yes it happens with all the smileys. And yes..Safari 6 won't upload and I can't even upload the previous version because I have the latest one for my generation of Mac!!
I've got round the problem by downloading Firefox...no probs using that.
