I'm reporting this bug submitted by another member. Others cite the same problem. 1) The URL to the page you are on when the bug occurred.Removed 2) What happened, in detail? When I open the 'Create Link' pop-up, the text I highlighted appears in the URL slot, and the word 'link' appears in text. This seems to have recently changed. I think it was working as I expected just a few days ago, but now what I have to do is Copy the desired text BEFORE the link because I have to move that text to the Text box. THEN I have to copy the url from my browser & paste it into the url box. I think it is reversed from what it was until a few days ago (or I mis-remember). In any case it adds at least 2 extra steps. 3) If you received an error message, what did it say?N/A 4) What do you think should have happened instead? The Text Box should contain the Highlighted text and the url box should not. 5) Can you reproduce this on every pageview?Yes, when I am creating a link. 6) What browser, version, and operating system are you using?OS: Windows Vista Chrome 25.0.1364.152m FireFox 19.0.2 7) Please attach a screen shot (JPG or PNG -- not GIF or BMP) if it is relevant.

Hi Tossmoder☆, I had thought this was reported once before, but don't currently see anything in our internal ticket system. I'll go ahead and add this in now. Thanks

The reason this wasn't reported before was because it was the intended function. In any case, we're changing this again. In the future when you highlight text and hit the link button, whatever you've highlighted will populate both fields because either way you have to fill out one box.

In the future when you highlight text and hit the link button, whatever you've highlighted will populate both fields because either way you have to fill out one box. Filling out one or the other box isn't the problem. It is not populating the text link field properly. The text you highlight should appear in that box, if you have it, with an empty box for the URL. It USED to work properly. It stopped. The way it is working now is that it fills the URL field with the text one wanted as the link. Neither field is correct. Why intentionally fill a box with the wrong text? At least populating both fields with identical text will mean that one is correct and you only have to erase one of them, but I'm wondering why you can't just leave the URL box open. If you want to use the URL itself for the link, you can just copy (or copy through drag/drop) the URL in the link box. Doesn't that make sense?

What you're saying makes sense.
The general issue is that it makes sense to us that you'd highlight the URL in the reply box before hitting the link button, the opposite makes more sense to you (how it used to work).
As a compromise, we're now making whatever you highlight appear in both boxes. Either way you're going to have to fill out 1 box, this gives you the option of using either method.

I reported it here support.proboards.com/post/5226186/threadand I stand by my claim that you guys have it backwards, at best. The highlighted text belongs in the TEXT box, and the URL should be pasted in the URL box. Seems pretty obvious to me.

Maybe the problem here is one of communication and how we each use the feature. Do you first paste the URL into the message, then highlight that and enter your alt text into the message box? Edit: AHA!! Yes. It works perfectly with that scenario! If so, that is the opposite of how I, at least, use the feature. I type out my message as I want it to appear, highlight the word or phrase that I want to become a hyperlink, open the URL box, and paste my URL into there. However, I am reasonably certain that this is the way that it used to work.

That is one possible way to use the feature. With the upcoming implementation you'll be able to use it either way.
Edit: It used to work the way you want it to work. It no longer does. It was changed to match other forum features for consistency.
