I don't think you understand. This is in PM's only. I didn't say anything about the open threads. When you get a PM if you want to reply to it you click "reply". That is fine. Then you type your reply, and when ready to send the only option you have is "reply" again? It's confusing. It makes no sense as it is as you are trying to reply to your own reply.
no it does not bother me, it is your forums, the only reason I said anything is because people have questioned me.
as for me making a plugin??? I know nothing about making plugins. If I did I wouldn't have asked in the first place.

PMs are conversations in v5. You can now have multiple recipients in the same conversation (PM chain).
PMs are a lot like an internal email system within the forum. You have an
Inbox and an
Outbox and even an
Archive. These are all email terms.
In v5 you can see your PMs one after another in a conversation format just like the best email services do (GMail for example). And because it's a forum it just happens to resemble a thread because it's easier to go with what familiar and readily available as far as coding goes.
What happens when someone sends you and email and you want to send one back? You Reply.
What happens when a member sends you a PM on the forum and you want to send one back? You Reply.
The terminology is correct. I'm sorry if you are confused by it. You are the first person in over a year and a half since the alpha started for v5 to say something about this.
In v4 the button you click to reply is called Reply, so it's already in people brains. The only thing we updated was we change '
Send Personal Message' to '
Reply' on the actual button. We did that because the way PMs are handled has changed. In v4 every single PM was by itself. It was like sending letters through snail mail in real life. I write a letter and I '
Send the letter'. You receive it and write a completely separate letter in return. We were always corresponding one letter at a time regardless of if we were replying to each other or creating a new topic to talk about. In v5 it's more like emails. I start a conversation with you by sending you the first message. After that everything is a '
reply' to the current conversation between us. At any time you could start a separate conversation with me by creating a new message. But that will have it's own replies as well. And the best part is, unlike v4 where multiple people would all receive their own "letters" and all have to write back separately, in v5 everyone communicates in the same PM Conversation. And any time someone wants to say something it is a Reply to that conversation.
Going from v4 to v5 is like going from snail mail to email.And the only button to change was the
Send Personal Message, because in the new system that doesn't make sense. It's one word and it's a word that people have been clicking on for years when they wanted to send a reply to a PM they received. The button says reply in v4. All we did was update the submit button.
Bonus Logic: We added the ability to Quick Reply to conversations in v5, since they are like a personal thread between members. That submit button for the Quick Reply says
Reply. It would be far more confusing that one method says Reply while the other says something different when they both do the same thing.
So once again, thank you, but this won't be changing.
Edit: The point of plugins in v5 is that you don't need to know anything. Simply go visit the Plugin board (links up above) and make a request. Someone else can make it for you that knows how and you simply instal it. Easy.
