So I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned anything about this for I did not see anything...so I thought I would just start a thread and see what kind of feedback I got.
While I love the ability to click on visual and have it be like a preview that I can make small edits to the text that I type, I must say that I'm not loving the way it takes over and makes edits to the bbcode as well. When typing in visual it's almost like it just takes over and boldly states "I got this, let me handle it!"
Then I'm like, "no please visual tab...please I have the bbcode the way I want it, don't mess it up..." Yet my pleas fall on deaf ears and thus it makes the changes anyway and when I go back to BBcode I facepalm and start editing it.
One major problem I noticed is that it likes to throw in the font tags every where without me even highlighting code and prompting it to add the font tags around it by clicking the button. Literally I will have 8 random font tags in one paragraph, sometimes they are even just enclosed around a single letter in the middle of some word. It also likes to throw around the non-breaking space every other time I hit space, but I suppose that isn't too big of a deal. It ends up repeating a lot of codes, much like the font ones except some of these repeats can be quite troublesome...such as with tables and divs. When copying and pasting into it...well it just gets worse as it tries to format whatever you paste into it with bbcode it thinks you want.
Also the margins/widths or maybe even pixel measurements in general seem to be very off compared to what it looks like when posted which can be annoying. However this may be unavoidable since the preview in v4 had similar problems with margins being different than the actual post...margins are margins after all.
I know this is not only a problem for me but everyone on my site as well (so I'm guessing it's this way on multiple browsers/systems), and most of them are not savvy enough to fix the problems the visual tab creates. While we could just stick to using the BBcode tab I would rather not. I do really love the feature to preview and then type text into it. It helps a lot when filling out a template, instead of sifting through code to fill out a posting template you can just type it out in the visual tab.
I guess what I would like to see is that the visual tab be toned down a bit in the way that it implements code and also how it tries to "auto-correct". I would like to see it be more simple and working as a preview tab that we just so happen can make small edits in as well. Right now I think it's just trying to do so much, almost like a DreamWeaver GUI (an example of something that also adds in a bunch of extra and unnecessary code when typing).
So I suppose it does have some bugs when it comes to the visual tab handling bbcode...and while these bugs might need to be fixed I would rather see the visual tabs built in editing features toned down as a whole...though I realize not everyone may want this. So instead perhaps a way to sort of limit the visual tab? Maybe options for it to pick and choose what its capable of? Maybe even a way to disable how it effects the bbcode? I just want some sort of solution so its not doing its own thing behind the curtains as I'm typing away in it.
