I will try and explain.....when you call up the REPLACE function......make sure you first click on the replace box.....you can then make both your changes in the same area....then proceed as Joachim says.....enter ^p in the find and replace field and then ^p^p in the replace with field......click on Replace all and it will open up all your paragraph spaces.in your word document. You should then get a message that a certain number of actions have been taken.....Then highlight your text and you should notice that that your paragraphs appear to close up again.....don't be fooled by that..copy and paste as normal and your paragraphs will paste as you would like to see them, with proper paragraph breaks.
Then go back to your word document and ctrl-z to undo and your word document will go back to what it looked like originally.
I hope this helps.

The issue with pasting from Word, as writers, is that when you have it set up in such a way, you don't actually *have* paragraphs, you have line breaks with spacing after each of those (which looks like you have paragraphs the way they look on here), thus when you paste, you get a huge paragraph without space. One of the ways to change this, all it takes is about ten seconds really, you pull up the 'replace' function. In the search, you enter this: ^p In the replace you put up: ^p^pIt will space your paragraphs properly for copying, pasting. Once pasted, you can ctrl-z (undo) and you'll be back to your regular Word document. It's how I've worked for years. It's simple and easy. Please help a newbie out here. I pulled up the Replace function and entered ^p into the Find and Replace field and then hit Find. From there, I put ^p^p in the next open box and then clicked on Replace All but when I paste the text into a thread on my forum, it still comes out as one big blurb - no spaces in between sentences or paragraphs. If you select for paragraph marks to show (this button: ¶) between your paragraphs do you get ¶ or ![Linebreak](http://word.mvps.org/images/OtherPics/LineBreak.gif) ? Please be aware that once you enter ^p you don't need to hit find just yet, you can enter ^p^p directly into replace and it should do the trick when you click Replace All. Here is how it looks like on my end with a Lorem Ipsum text when I give it a try. I apologize for the image heaviness so I set them under spoilers. Here's how the basic Lorem Ipsum looks in Word with the after-paragraph spacing that it adds automatically: Here I pull up the Find and Replace (Ctrl-H is the shortcut), and I enter that I want to replace one paragraph marker ^p by two ^p^p I hit Replace all and I get doubled paragraphs that should make it easier to post on most platforms, Proboards, Wordpress, etc. Now if by some reason you're using manual line breaks in your text, they'll look like this below and to replace them you'll actually have to use ^l (that's a lowercase L). And it should give you the same result as before where your manual line break will have been replaced by two paragraph markers. Please note this works for Microsoft Word, I don't know if it works anywhere else though I know for a fact it doesn't work in Notepad (the one that comes with Windows) ~~~ As a side note, thank you Margaret for explaining it in words that may have been easier to understand. I figured images might help others along just as well so I gave it a go. And a rather startled but heartfelt thank you for the cookie badge, I am absolutely baffled!

Hi. Sorry for "butting in" here again (I was the one that suggested Notepad++ and I'm sorry it didn't work for you) but I've just noticed something that may or may not have anything to do with this issue (I'm not sure if it's been resolved or not either). I was helping someone out (answering a query) right here on these support forums and posted a code snippet for them using the "code" tag(s). While I was logged in everything looked fine. So: I logged out and carried on with something else. The person responded to me and I went directly to the thread without logging in and all of my formatting for the code snippet had disappeared i.e. it was just one long line. Logged in. Formatting perfect!!! Take a look at the following post FIRST when logged OUT and THEN after logging IN and you'll see what I mean: support.proboards.com/post/5304382As I said: not sure if THIS means anything (insofar as the topic of this thread is concerned) but, well, just trying to help is all. Regards, Dale. P.S. i.e. edit after the above post. Sometimes the formatting is there and sometimes it's not so not sure what's up with that. Clear your browser cache before each attempt and / or "force" a refresh (hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on the link given) ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) Anyway: probably got nothing to do with the problem at hand. As I said: not sure (but it's not "my eyes" I assure you i.e. it DOES happen just like I said above)!!! LOL!!!

Hey there djinvincible74, We're aware of a bug affecting Safari users that strips out line breaks. On another browser the solution you quoted would work, but it doesn't on Safari for that reason. Our developers have been made aware and will work to correct this. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I've tried using the techniques mentioned above with both ^p and ^l and neither one of them work in Safari or Google Chrome. Any other suggestions?

That gives me the impression that this is a Mac bug instead of a Safari bug - I'll ask Michael to test this, as he has access to a Mac.

While he's doing that, can you try something for me, djinvincible74? If you were to copy the contents of your Word document into Apple's Text Edit, and then (assuming the spacing is correct then), copy it again from Text Edit into our Preview editor?

When I paste the text from Text Edit to my forum, it keeps the spacing. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Thanks for testing that out, djinvincible74. It seems then that the stripping occurs when pasting over directly from Word. We have a ticket reporting these findings in our internal bug tracker, but while we figure out the best course of action there, at least you'll have a workaround to get your content posted on your forum! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
