So, I've been playing around with a new theme idea for my forum, I created a test site to work on it, check it out let me know your thoughts, still working on customizing some images, but the overall idea is there! What do you think? tegdesignstest.proboards.com/

I'll start off with a question, the background is it supposed to go red/gold bar/*maroon or red/gold bar/*maroon*/gold bar/ red? (*= forum placement) when i pull the site up i see the first pattern but when i zoom out it some what follows the second pattern. So now ill talk about a few things i like but could be tweaked a bit. First the banner the text is great its a hard forged script with strong lines and colors placed above a bottom layer of text for a nice look what doesnt fit is the "quote" is a soft text maybe its the gradient used or maybe a bold color could help, it just seems softer than its main text it sits under. The banner itself is this nice over red grunge feel something we dont see to much of unless in some bloody horror theme but it works my only concern is it to much? the banner is great like i said but its completely empty why use a large banner when it shows nothing inside but texture if you cut it down in size it can give a sleeker look and allow users to see the forum more not just a banner that says look at me. Next the on/off icons im a fan of circles for these icons but i would add the word old to the off icon as well maybe use a different color text to show a difference between the two and again the gradient is soft... The "Teg Designs" font sets the stage for the forum it makes it bold, strong, and sharp these soft gradients just dont feel right on the board.
Color scheme I see what you have here a few shades of red with a touch of yellow its not a lot to do with these colors but they can feel bland in my eyes and your banner doesnt quite sit well with bland. It feels like "autumn" colors or "school" colors which is fine but at the end of the day it will look like a bland board with a cool banner unless youre adding texture i would say use some white, black, and especially for your board some brown to mix up the contrast.
Final thought your portfolio is no stranger to accent colors (beautiful blue on greys) you are an artist and you shouldnt fear color and lots of it, your new theme is a great skin this is true but for use on your site "a design site" i say pass unless you bring in some nice accent colors.
All this is opinion and doesnt mean much just one persons ideas and views on a design. I mean c'mon what do i know my forum is all black.. but i feel your current design is better than your new look
