Removing the banner image

I've tried every selection and process I could find to remove the darn image and replace it with another and all it does is add another behind it.
I'm so frustrated with this editor it's beyond belief. I even deleted the darn image selection on the editor page and it still shows. Now the ability to add a picture is gone.

I need an easier editing forum site it seems as this one is so complicated for a beginner.
I thought I had it figured out but, the simplest task seems to be like the US govt getting something done.

Most likely you're changing the banner image, when what you want to be changing is the logo image. The logo image can be found on the images tab of your theme's settings page.
