Did the coding for character tables change?? I'm so confused. I've done this in the past and it turned out perfectly, but that was over a year ago. I need help because it doesn't not turn out how I want it to anymore! :'( This is the code I used: [center][table][tr][td][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true][img]http://i1142./n611/Rachel_Roberson/Heading.jpg[/img][/td][/tr][tr][td][atrb=background,http://i1142./n611/Rachel_Roberson/Middle.jpg][color=c6999d][blockquote][blockquote][size=1]
Actions. [color=feefd2][i]thoughts[/i][/color] [color=da8e4f][b]"Speech."[/color][/b]
[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote][/color][/td][/tr][tr][td][img]http://i1142./n611/Rachel_Roberson/AislingFooter.jpg[/img][/td][/tr][/table][/center] but THIS is how it turns out: PLEASE HELP

You mean in v5? Yes, the tags have changed. Your table is much more complicated than mine and I wouldn't know how to convert it (I just spent the last half hour or so trying), but if you install the Word Count plugin on your site, there is an option under the "experimental" tab in its settings that allows the site to render v4-style enhanced tables. Source post for my recommendation of using the Word Count plugin.

In V4, "Posting Tables" also commonly referred to as "Enhanced UBBC" were provided by several codes that filled the gaps where the V4 UBBC was lacking. This is however no longer the case in V5 since the now improved UBBC (now called bbcode) is capable of creating these posting tables with no need for additional header/footer codes. You would of course need to rewrite those old V4 tables to take advantage of the newer V5 capabilities since they use different formats and many have gotten help doing so in this boardAside from the mistake of [/color] coming before the [/b] and needing to be corrected in that template it looks like the plugin Anaiu mentioned (which is still a work in progress) will do the job or you can get it updated to render without needing a code/plugin by using the improved V5 format.

The image I posted is with the plugin doing the conversion but I went ahead and did a hand written conversion where you don't need a plugin [div align="center"][table style="width:500px;border-spacing:0;" border="0"][tbody][tr][td style="padding:0;"][img src="http://i1142./n611/Rachel_Roberson/Heading.jpg" style="max-width:100%;vertical-align:bottom;"][/td][/tr][tr][td style="background-image:url(http://i1142./n611/Rachel_Roberson/Middle.jpg);padding:0;"][font color="c6999d"][blockquote][blockquote][font size="1"]
Actions. [font color="feefd2"][i]thoughts[/i][/font] [font color="da8e4f"][b]"Speech."[/b][/font]
[/font][/blockquote][/blockquote][/font][/td][/tr][tr][td style="padding:0;"][img src="http://i1142./n611/Rachel_Roberson/AislingFooter.jpg" style="max-width:100%;"][/td][/tr][/tbody][/table][/div] |
Actions. thoughts "Speech."

Chris *butts in* just a side note here really. The template doesn't need the table tags to work. Also I was thinking maybe of getting someone to add a post into the Help guide in regards to posting templates. Since this is what i do, and is what my forum's about and so on. I was wondering if a basic template should be posted to show how to do these for the onslaught of people screaming for help with them? I know that Brian has been asked for help with templates, where he should be focused on actual site maintenance and such a topic for helping others, how to build these things maybe a resolution to the requests?

Racheyygirl, I just noticed the link you gave was to a V4.5 forum not a V5 forum but the answer you were given was for V5! If you want that posting template to work on a V4 forum then you'll need to install this code in your forum's global footer. Welshling, if you wish to recreate it from scratch without tables then you're welcomed to it but my time is better spent not having to recreate the wheel which means a 1-to-1 conversion within the realm of v5 BBcode possibilities. It took me literally 30 seconds to copy the V5 rendered version with a subsequent edit to account for a quirks mode truism that unfortunately no longer holds true in Standards mode. There are literally thousands of existing posting templates and if you wish to recreate them by hand then have at it. The problem from my perspective isn't building new ones, there are people such as yourself who can do that, it is converting the ones that already exists and they go back years. That is a daunting task to ask any admin to go edit hundreds if not thousands of old posts individually to render properly in V5. I had hoped the V5 conversion would have taken that into account and automatically bring those old templates into the present realm of possibilities but I fully understand since there were more pressing matters that required attention. The fact that there is also a pruned list of attributes and style properties made it even more doubtful that such a conversion would occur which makes the more advanced templates still not possible in V5. For example a notable omission is the transform property which is used in the following templates to give the images a slight rotation meaning they won't be possible to seamlessly convert using just V5 BBcode. That pruned list has grown since the alpha days but it is indeed still pruned to keep mischief managed and I seriously doubt some property values such as display or position (used quite a bit) not to mention deprecated attributes which must now be converted to their CSS equivalents, will ever make that list. I've already had this conversation with Brian regarding the difficulties [1.2] of codifying an automated conversion process across all browser idiosyncrasies but I remain optimistic.

I am trying to get a plugin btw, stalk me in the plugin requests. Perhaps your input as well as anyone else's may spur someone to create a plugin to allow these styles to be accepted in a post template... Also I never noticed the v4.5 link lol >.<

Also I never noticed the v4.5 link lol >.< I saw that thread a few days ago but I have nothing to contribute except to say that if you do a live search in that same board for "classy" you would find the answer which you seek. You can define the transition but there still needs to be a catalyst and the options are either JavaScript (e.g onmouseover) or CSS but giving users the ability to embed their own JavaScript would be forum suicide. The CSS option of allowing users to define their own CSS rules (not just inline styles) comes with a bit too much vulnerability for my taste as well. There was mention, I believe in that same thread, that Proboards may add the ability to use classes (likely on a limited/filtered basis) which would then allow the admin control over which rules the forum would support rather than allowing unfettered and unverified user input. This could most likely be implemented as a plugin right now giving the admin the ability to then define CSS rules that use pseudo-elements and pseudo-classes such as hover that would then act as a catalyst for those transitions. The only hitch would be finding an already allowed attribute to piggyback that data (probably title since it is accepted on most elements or a bogus font-family chain within a style) though it would be sweet if the devs added CSS3 data-* attributes for use on individual tags.

If you want that posting template to work on a V4 forum then you'll need to install this code in your forum's global footer. Just follow that part to get the header/footer code and install it because your forum has not been upgraded yet, you'll be then able to use the original posting template you had in your first post since it is for a version 4.5 forum (which you have) rather than a version 5 forum (I assumed you were on version 5).

If you do not have access to the headers/footers then you'll need someone who does
