I swear this was fixed. the only reason a plugin setting should change is if the id for that setting was changed. as in I changed it from "alter_name" to "alter_username" because there isnt a direct connection between the two.

all key data should still be there of course.

Just thought I'd mention that I had the exact same problem, though considering I only had 5 alters at the time, it wasn't much to fix.

Hey there... I have your updated version installed and it's workly great. Only thing is it shows my alter is offline for some reason. Was there something I was supposed to fill out or click that I might have forgotten? Oh and thanks.

the online status only works with companion because it requires a seperate key to actually track that data. if you dont have companion it will just say offline because it has no way of knowing when the Alter was last there.

if you are using the custom MP, you can just remove online_status part if you dont want it there

Allow me to clarify what's going on, specifically.

What I speak of is, when I delete the old version, then install the new version, the list of characters is gone from the Characters tab in the UI, and as a result, until they're restored, alters do not appear in posts. Apparently, that data is still present, but after an update, since there's no existing Alter in the Characters list to attach the data to, they don't appear until the Alter is restored. I have found that as long as the user permissions and display name are restored properly, the Alter's miniprofile is restored in any posts made by that Alter.

I can only assume that what's going on is, the UI settings data is thrown out when the old plugin is deleted (as I know is the case for any plugin), but the other data stays as it should.

So what would need to happen, if I am correct in my assessment of the problem, is that the key would need to remember current UI settings data, and restore it when it detects that the plugin has been re-installed.

Edit-In: Or, another solution, if the above cannot be used, add Download/Upload Character Data buttons to the Characters tab, so that when staff needs to update the plugin, they can fetch the character data, then restore it after the UI data is inevitably thrown out when re-installing the plugin.

Yeah it is definitely not fixed. I just updated it and the data was wiped. Ouchie! That was 20 alters gone.

Is this suppose to take a key or a super-key? I noticed the companion takes a super.

do you want to see if re-installing the previous version will bring back the data?

actually, it looks like I only have 1.4.3 saved locally.  Tim Camara might be able to get you v1.5.1 from the library backups.  he needs to see this thread to know how painful it is to lose plugin data on upgrades as well.

Ok... I have a question about this. I am using this on two of my sites, but in two different ways. I decided to upgrade this on my test site first. I noticed the same problem as everyone else. (I thought about the companion plugin too, but got distracted having to refill in the lost data for the alters I already created on this one site.)

SO... On my main site I really don't want to have to retype in the data, (not  because there is a lot of data, but because of what I'm using it for.) I'm sort of afraid to update at all until I get more info. See, I decided to use Brian's sidebar redux and make my main site more like a magazine/newspaper. I have a character I use for the alter, leave headlines in the sidebar where you can click and I have the members rerouted to a hidden area of the site to read the full threads attached to those headlines. I call it Xeno's Corner. Sorry about telling you about all of this, but what I'm worried about will be if I update will everything that I already used my alter for go back to my regular screen name for good, even if I reenter the data? Even if I were to upgrade then reenter the data, will this mean that it will start from fresh from today forward? I'm thinking from what I'm reading here, all of the threads I already created will not have my alter attached. I'm kinda frozen right now in deciding if I want to upgrade or not on this second site... I really want to since now I can see the upgraded version on my test site is cool.

Now, if you tell me if reentering the data after I update will affect the posts I've already used this plugin for, that would be a huge load off of my mind.

The alter data is saved to the post by Name, so as long as the name of the alter is the same then it will put in the data even if you have to retype it.

BUT instead of everyone updating to the new version immediately, why not just wait until one of the devs that has been tagged numerous times in numerous threads answers if the data saving can be fixed or not? if its something they can easily fix again, then I think it might be worth waiting for.

That kinda thought I might need to wait till things are fixed. I'm in no hurry, I just didn't want to jump the gun. Thanks for letting me know.

Alright. I am just going to have my members fill out the information I need just as a back-up in the event that the data is non-recyclable. I really regret not backing up the old plugin before installing the new one. It was one of those really terrible "decisions at 5am" kind of thing.

yeah I feel bad you had to do that. I didnt change anything in the way of WHAT was stored. I mainly finished the MP customization part. The next update Im going to try and get {if}{/if} statements to work in there as well.

When adding new characters and selecting "user id", this error message comes up:

Could not connect to search server. Please try again.

Worked fine yesterday...
