that is not the fault of the plugin, but rather the search server being down. check on regular support for more info.

Members of my forum are complaining that if they click the "Quote" button, they can't use an alter in that post. I've told them they can simply copypasta any necessary text they'd like to quote, but they'd still prefer the easy method, so is there any chance that'll be fixed in a future version?

They want to quote what an alter said, or they want to quote someone else and have that post be by an alter?
the first one.. might take some work since I have to figure out a way to capture the alter name into the quote process.
the second one I have to check on the status of a support topic because the last i checked some codes dont run when quote is used
and you might want to wait on loading any updates to the alter code until they can determine if the data saving can be fixed or not.

I swear this was fixed. the only reason a plugin setting should change is if the id for that setting was changed. Am I wrong in thinking you guys had this bug fixed a while ago? I'll try to look into this today.

It's the second one; they want the ability to quote someone (by clicking the Quote button), and have the post be made by an Alter, although that first one does sound good if you can find a way to implement it. XD

Okay, I just finished looking into it. Currently, the system is working as expected, but we agree that the expectation was stupid. I'm hopeful that I'll get a chance to make some major updates to the library in the very near future, and this change would definitely be a part of that (perhaps even a more streamlined upgrade process).

Key data does, settings data does not. That was more to ensure interoperability between plugins that have shared keys than for versioning though.

this would be one of those times being able to run scripts on the plugins page would com ein handy... but wouldnt outweigh the negatives of all the other problems that could happen

I have a solution in mind that should pretty much solve this problem. Hopefully I'll get to work on it tomorrow.

I'm on version 1.4.2, and having a problem where just updating an alter can remove the alter from any posts it is in. I just discovered it yesterday when I was setting up a new alter but thought it was a glitch, but after a few posts today I decided to tweak the alter's signature - and all the posts for that alter so far reverted back to the user (it was only a few in this case so not a great loss, but would certainly discourage me from making edits in the future). Is this a known issue, or was I doing something wrong?
Also, I'd like to second the request to be able to use an alter when replying using quote, if it's possible. As it is to use an alter I use quote, copy the text, then go back and past it into a regular reply so I can use the alter.
Thanks!

changing the signature shouldnt break anything. the alter is stored to each post using 2 things: the member id and the name of the alter. unless you change the name of the alter, the post should still have key data. can you link me to a post where the alter is no longer attached? one that a guest can see and I will determine if the keydata is gone?
and I agree the quoting thing is an excellent idea. I am definitely adding that in. just have to figure out the part A of it.

As soon as you mentioned the alter name I remembered - I also removed an unnecessary space from the name which must have broken any links to those posts. I guess I'll have to be more careful with that! Thanks for the help.

I thought at one point it DID already shift data from plugin version to version? I can confirm that it DID transfer plugin data settings (NOT referring to key data settings) to newer versions but this behavior changed once the ability to add default plugin settings was pushed.

I can look into MAYBE making a way to change the displayname via a second input field.
