I'm not certain if Templates is the correct board for this question, or if it would require a plugin. If this is the wrong spot, I apologize in advance. Is it possible to use the information in a profile's Custom fields to be used like a Member Group? I run a Fleet (guild) for Star Trek Online. I want to be able to have different aspects of a character to affect how a user name and mini-profile are displayed. For example, one character is Romulan Tactical Officer, holding the rank of Centurion, while being assigned to "Task Force Alpha". I want his User-name appear in Red (the Tactical color), his Themes to be restricted to Romulan themes (in addition to Default), his Rank insignia to be displayed where the Stars would normally be, and the Title to indicate his assignment (as well as giving him access to private "Task Force Alpha" boards, while restricting his access to other "Task Force" boards. I know each of these things can be done with User Groups, but I've been unable to figure out how to do all of them AT THE SAME TIME, if it's even possible. A friend of mine suggested it might be possible to modify the templates for the individual sections, pulling data from Profile Fields, using in-line scripts and embedded IF statements. Can it be done? If so, how might I go about getting stated? Thanks ahead of time, --Roger (( PS: My forum is sto-frontier-fleet.proboards.com/ ))

Hi, Gawain_VIII. It's possible to modify the layout template in that sense, but you'd need to do it for every theme on your forum. Overall it would be a very complicated process. I'm sure someone could author a plugin that could likely look at each user's mini-profile and change it based on what it finds using a regular expression or by searching for classes.
