I saw the word counter puluin, but I'm not sure that's what I need. I am hoping to set a minimum number of words required to actually post in a thread, looking to do away with the one word responses to help generate more conversation.

The plugin by Chris does appear to have that feature...

"create limits (e.g. "minimum 100 words") on a forum-wide, category, board or per thread basis (or any combination of the 4 limit classes)"
