Hey there, sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if there was a way to put a background in the posted up threads and posts. I just was thinking that I wanted to put a grating like in this, in the background, all very transparent like. Is there a way to do this, or at least try it to see if I want it? ~Georgie.

I'm not sure what you're asking for here, XENO QUEEN, but I'm pretty sure that it's possible. Can you rephrase it for me?

I think he is trying to create something along these lines exept with the text that would go over the image. (Sorry i have Paint to work with so obviously not very pretty) I put the crappy example in an attachment. Attachments:

Sorry, I'm not very good at explaining things sometimes, because I know what it is in my head, but then I try to explain it and it's all foggy and sticky and loll. Anyway: I'm wanting a background for posts (in threads). Like as follows:

That can be done! Do you have the image that I see as the background of that screenshot's post? Go ahead and post it for me and I'll give you instructions.

Where did you want the image to show? In all posts? I would prefer it if we could do it in different boards or categories, so I can do a ship background on the ships/crafts area and maybe stars in outer space. Haha. If that is not possible, then I would be able to deal with it being in all.

Well to implement it in different areas such as boards and categories you'd need a bit more complex layout template modification like in the other thread you posted, but to show the image in a post as depicted in your screenshot, it's very simple. Add the following to the bottom of your style sheet:

I'd rather not have images under things that need to be clear (like rules for example), on the 'importants' board, I'd rather have no background. Hope you can figure out something for me, you're smarter than me. :D (I just used rules because its the only post I have right now)

It's not difficult to make them unique if we use the method I suggested in your other thread, but it would mean you'd have to be very specific about what you want to be able to do. Pick from these:
Option 1: set the .message and .foot elements to include the post ID. This will allow you to set different background images for every separate individual post on your forum, but every post that you want to have a BG image has to be referenced in your CSS. Good for highlighting certain posts, but no good if you want a large number of posts to have background images.
Option 2: set the .message and .foot elements to include the thread ID. This will allow you to set background images for entire threads instead of individual posts. Good for I guess "themeing" threads?
Option 3: set the .message and .foot elements to include the board ID. This will allow you to set a background image for these elements across all threads in a board, and have different background images depending on which board it is. All threads in a board will have the background image.

All threads in a board will have the background image. ...This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill – you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Remember, all I'm offering is the truth – nothing more. Lolololol. Anyways, Option 3, is my choice. :)

Alrighty Morpheus, just give me the red pill and a stiff drink. Head to Admin, mouse over Structure, and click on Layout Templates. Locate the Thread template, click it, and then click the Post List tab. Scroll down to about line 28 and locate this: <div class="message">$[post.message]</div> Replace it with this, to give it that board ID: <div class="message-$[post.board_id]">$[post.message]</div> Then on line 33, find: <td class="foot"> Replace with: <td class="foot-$[post.board_id]"> From here on out, you can set backgrounds per board with CSS, based on the board's ID. To get the board's ID, just navigate to the board in your browser and check the address bar for the number. For example, the Support board here has an ID of 44.
Setting a background image for a board with CSS would look like this, placed at the bottom of your style sheet: .message-1, .foot-1 {background-image:url('IMAGE URL');} This would place the background image in all posts of all threads in the board with the ID 1.
