what do you mean each theme? as far as i know i only have one theme
i got it to work but it doesn't have lines separating the category names, which just looks crappy for one and also kind of confusing because now it just looks like there's random words above everything. and with my two main forums there's gonna be three rows and i believe four columns so i would really like for it to have lines separating each one. is there a way to adjust that?

If you only have one theme then what i said about themes doesn't matter.
And I'm not seeing it active on your forum you gave me, can you provide the link to where this template is in use? Thanks.
Also you don't have the CSS placed to give the tabs color, etc.

it's linked in my profile
free advertising space
all the other links were my other forums that i was linking for examples because they're all still v4
and you didn't explain what you meant by putting it on each theme. i only have one skin, the default skin, so if that's what you mean it doesn't apply. if you mean something different then i need you to actually explain things, not just tell me. obvious i don't know how this irritating mess works so i actually need things explained to me

You said you only have one theme so you are fine. If you have more than one theme, you'll have to put this template mod in each theme.

as far as i know i only have the default one. i just change that every time
so why aren't the categories separated? they just look like huge white words, no bars separating them and it looks like crap

I told you why your categories were seperated. You don't have the CSS that goes along with this.

okay.. again.. i know how to copy and paste crap together or make graphics. i don't understand this annoying stuff so can you please actually explain things? it would help a lot. otherwise what you're saying is extremely useless to me hah. so i don't know what you mean when you say i don't have the css placed or whatever
it's so stupid proboards thinks this is the better way to make their forum. it's unbelievably frustrating that i have to go find a new hosting site and start all over basically, all because pb doesn't give a crap if its users know coding or not. it's just not fair and wasn't thought out properly. V5 should be optional. i now know FOUR sites that have switched and one that quit entirely, all because PB is forcing us to use a version that absolutely sucks in basically every single way it possibly could. smart thinking pb creators.. not.

Okay, you don't have to be rude about it. I am voluntarily helping you. I don't have to do it. Now if you want to continue being rude about it, then I'll stop helping you right now. And don't complain to me that you don't like this new version. You didn't have to upgrade just yet, that's not my fault. You could have waited til the end of the year to upgrade. In that time you could have played with a betazone copy of your forum where you could test and play instead of having to jump in head first with v5. Again that's not my fault. This new version is so much better than v4. You don't need to know coding to use it. V5 gives you plenty of options that don't require coding. You could use header/footer codes if you wanted, but a lot of people aren't going to give you codes for them because plugins and template mods are the much better way of doing things. Now back to the CSS. Go to your admin panel. Then go to the themes section. Then go to Advance Styles and CSS. Then click the tab that says Style Sheet. Now scroll to the bottom of that. And paste this code. /*Begin Tabbed Categories CSS */ .tabbedtd { background-color: #1f1f1f; text-align: center; border: @content_area_border; padding: 2px; margin: 2px; }
.tabbedtd:hover { background-color: @container_highlight_color; }
.tabbedtdactive { background-color: @container_highlight_color; text-align: center; border: @content_area_border; padding: 2px; margin: 2px; } /*End Tabbed Categories CSS*/
That will give the tabs some coloring and such. It will keep the same color as your board background and highlight color. If you want something change in the CSS, like if the colors aren't right or what not, then let me know and I can tell you what to replace.

i wasn't being rude at all actually. i was just repeating myself. i said it before so i was letting you know that so that way i won't have to say it a third time hopefully so neither one of us is wasting time going back and forth when it could all be resolved in one or two replies rather than five or ten or whatever
trying it out now

You should have just asked 'Where can I add in the CSS?" instead restating the question. Let me know how it goes.

V5 should be optional. i now know FOUR sites that have switched and one that quit entirely, all because PB is forcing us to use a version that absolutely sucks in basically every single way it possibly could. smart thinking pb creators.. not. Hi [renz]V5 was specifically designed for users that have absolutely no coding knowledge. If you are experiencing issues dealing with CSS it is because you choose to use advanced areas that were meant for power users that desired more advanced editing capabilities. V4 required that you manually paste multiple codes into your headers and footers to make changes or fill out hex code fields on a page where you couldn't even see the changes as you made them. You had to use codes which were often complex and confusing for users with no knowledge or understanding of those codes. V5 has plugins and live previews to accomplish the same things. No coding needed, you just click settings. If you want to make style changes you can use the Colors & Theme Creator; absolutely no coding needed to make beautiful dynamic themes. If you want to start editing specific elements even more you can use the Advanced Styles & CSS Editor. Still no coding needed for the editor itself, though as the name suggests it is for more advanced users. You will need to explore and try things out if you venture into these areas. Doing advanced things means being patient and learning. There are more editable options for non-coders in v5 than there ever was in v4. Please don't make false blanket statements about v5 or ProBoards. You had the option to opt out until the end of the year. And try to have more respect for volunteers like Shorty who are helping you on their own time for nothing in return. You are receiving help with everything you ask for, it isn't much to ask that you be nice in turn. The easy parts of v5 are far easier and more powerful than v4 ever was. And yes there are complex advanced things too, for advanced users who know what they are doing. If your request is something advanced and beyond a normal change then it's going to require that you perform an advanced change, like editing the CSS directly. Please be patient, like those who are assisting you. All the easy options in v5 that a beginner can do outnumber the easy options of v4 10 to 1. No coding needed. Thank you.

i don't care what anyone wants to say - V5 is not easier for me. i hate it with a burning passion. i had one escape in life and that was coming onto my two proboards sites and now that's gone. my one escape is gone! i have a lot going on in my life so to lose my escape is an incredibly major big deal.
V5's staff area looks and is too crowded, there's way too many unnecessary options that should be added by the admin and not forced onto everyone, the way things have to be done is annoying and not easier what so ever, the fact that you're forced to change is a load of crap, and everything is too bubbly. i could go on too. i know one site quit altogether and others have switched to new hosting sites, so i'm not the only one who thinks this forced change is a terrible idea. i'm just obviously the only one who wants to voice it everywhere i can to make my point about what a horrible idea this was to force people to change something they were completely 100% happy with it.
shortyverrte and i have worked things out in messages, so please stay out of my business. what goes on between me and another person is our own business and please next time just ask if things have been resolved before jumping down my throat and attacking me and only me since i'm a "no body" user. i know you higher ranked members and staff feel the need to stick together no matter what but it's unbelievably not fair and annoying. i know that's life, trust me i know better than most, but i don't need to be "scolded" for something before questions are asked.
i get where you're coming from jumping into the middle of this but again, ask first next time before you assume. i already explained i wasn't being rude, it just came off that way because you can't tell emotions from typing. shortverrtt even apologized which there was absolutely no need for but i'm thankful for. so last time - just ask first. make sure there's something to jump into before you do it because one of my biggest pet peeves is when people get into my business knowing absolutely nothing and a fire that was JUST put out is now sparked up again
