I can't seem to find an answer to these questions anywhere.
The warning the site gives when entering the layout and CSS coding sections indicates that I need to know 'forum terminology,' but when I search for that (or just 'terminology' on the support forum boards), all I get is generic fluff that you need to know to even post on a forum. (aka the folder system of boards, member, staff, avatar, types of forums, et cetera.) Whereas I need more specific pieces, which I can't even name at this point. In an analogy, a beginning html developer needs to know tables, backgroundcolor, hyper references, anchors, etc. whereas the 'terminology' fluff they find when searching the web for help is simply URL bar, scroll bar, text, link, clicking on things, etc.
I tried making my own theme, but by the time I was halfway done, some words were huge, others tiny, and most of them didn't fit their boxes. Half the items I needed to change I couldn't figure out, because I didn't know the terminology. So I downloaded themes instead.
Here is one issue stemming from the above information. There are sure to be more.
In the default template/theme, beneath each category heading are columns, headed by the words 'Board', 'Threads', 'Posts', and 'Last Post'. I always thought the word 'Board' was somewhat unnecessary. So did some guy named Bill whose design, 'alien attack,' was posted in the library by mamagail. So now the words "Bils Designs" are plastered four times in the random location where the word 'Board' was previously. I will still give credit to Bill, but I want the distracting label out of the list of boards. This, however, is the most suitable design for heavy fiction-type reading. So the final question is how to modify that area, and what that area is called.
Another issue which has been resolved in a mysterious and frustrating way: I downloaded the "Dark Theme(Latte)" by Stinky666. Immediately, my forum name disappeared. I tried five times to put it back via the theme settings. When I switched the default back to Alien Attack, the forum name again disappeared. However, I just got it back, so it's only a side issue.
In case you need a visual reference as to what I'm talking about, my site is 100worlds.boards.net
The Bil's Design is my main issue for now. If I have more issues related to terminology in the themes, should I post them in this same thread or create a new thread? I suppose that partially depends upon what the solution is.
