How to insert image on home page?

I have an image and want to use it where my board name is....'

How do I install this?

Can I still have text over it?

I also want to add images to each section of the board, so if I click on "Our Lives" when it opens it will have image and list the threads....

Sorry if this is all simple but I am new and this is my first try at this.......
