Could there be email notifications?

Hi!
My members and I are having a hard time knowing when there is new content on the site.
I added the plug in so that there will be a notification notice on the tab, but that requires that the tab be open. I don't think everyone would do that.
I know a notification by email is possible as blogs do it all the time. I just don't know how difficult it would be.

They can already do this by going to Profile > Edit Profile > Notifications and then select emails for what they want to be notified about.
