If you install a template library theme, are you able to alter it, as long as you give credit to who made & designed the template and give yourself credit for altering it? Example of Sleek Black v2 altered.

Some of them say you can not alter, it depends what they say in the desc.
I however, being owner of the Sleek black, find nothing wrong with altering it. Credit of course has to be seeable, but that's about it.

Thanks Eli. I appreciate your permission to alter Sleek Black as long as the credit can be seen.

Thanks Eli. I appreciate your permission to alter Sleek Black as long as the credit can be seen. It'd ALWAYS be best to ask the theme creator, because even if someone doesn't say in their description, it means nothing. For instance, I never mention in my descriptions whether you can or can't edit the stuff then re-submit the theme(s). However, for me personally, I would definitely not want someone editing my themes and then submitting to the library. Even with both of us given credit. I usually fully customize my themes (look at Something Dark Theme, and Spectrum Theme, for 2 examples), and having someone "undo" that work, or simply changing the colours and/or adding a few extra little things, and then claiming credit for it, is a no-no.

I agree with you. The credit should be given to whoever the maker & designer of the theme is & whoever altered it, should only be given for altering it. That is why I keep the name Sleek Black as part of the name of the theme I've altered, plus there is a link to the maker & designer of the template clearly visible for anyone to click on the home page.

I have to say, personally, that I feel this is wrong, even WITH credit given. If I spent my time making a theme, only to have someone else change a couple of things and then re-submit it, I'd be mad.

I feel like I should mention that library themes that are only slight variations of an existing theme, especially one by a different author are not accepted to the library. ProBoards already has your back on that one...

I would never re-submit an altered library template. I believe an altered theme used by oneself or given to another member to use should have credit for the maker & designer of the theme clearly shown, but whoever altered it can give credit to themselves, only for the alterations made.
