First: Sorry, if this were requested already before. I did run the search-function, but it didn't gave me the results i searched for. Ok, i wanted to ask, if it's please possible, to make a plugin, there you can see, who is just right on, like as many other forum-boards have it, too. It looks like that: Many, many thanks in advance. Best regards, Pecar

This should already be present by default in your Info Center on your homepage

Thanks for reply! And sorry, i didn't described more clearly lol. Yes, there is a "box", there you can see, who is online. But this is not what i meant. As many other forums have it, too, there is also a clickable Link called "Who's Online", too. And there you can see everyone, who is just online, and see in which section he/she is right now. For example: Guest - watching Index Page, user123 - replying in General Chat, and so on.

That's unfortunately not possible due to privacy problems, it has been requested before and always rejected. If you saw it on other forums, they were likely other hosts, not proboards. I believe you can transfer the info center who is online information to other areas, such as in a sidetable, but that's about the extent of it and the board Information & Statistics area, where it says who is viewing that board, is about as far as we can get with seeing who is looking at what.

Aah, ok, thank you very much for clearing that up for me. Then i'll have to live with it for now. But, it's still irritating me: proboard has privacy problems with this function? How comes, that every other hoster doesn't have any privacy problems with such a function? Anyways, again, many thanks for your help. Best regards, Pecar

It is up to the host to decide how they feel about it. For Proboards, they feel it is an invasion of privacy to zero in on exactly what someone is doing, and most proboards members that I've seen discuss it on Support agree with that. A lot of hosts aren't nearly as personal as Proboards who care about their members in a closer way than merely functionality. You can always suggest it as a Feature Request in the general Support board if you'd like to give it a try anyway!

User ELF is pressing the "f" key while writing a post in response to the thread "some thread" in the board "some board" while also sipping on Mountain Dew and eating leftover pizza in their Pokemon pajamas. Their room is a bit messy and could use some cleaning but first ELF should study for that math quiz since they only scored a B on the last one. Also their bike tire us a bit flat and they are out of socks.
Yeah I could see a plugin becoming really popular ...

LOL Otherwise, i would see that comment from Wormopolis as an "insult" against me (for asking for a harmless feature). But since i'm respecting decisions, made by authorities, i'm seeing it as a sarcasm. Plus, isn't that a little bit overreacting? I mean, that comment sounds to me like, as this feature would be a bad thing as like the NSA. XD This feature, which is implemented in every other hosted forums, are not "sniffing" around and "catches" datas from every user, like the NSA, the BKA (Bundes-Kriminal-Amt in Germany, it's like as the NSA, just a little smaller lol), the CIA, the MI6 and so on. It doesn't show you exactly, what the user is exactly writing in messages or in threads (ok, in threads, after writing, everyone can see that anyways, because, he/she wrote it public-wise lol). No, it shows you only at which place he/she is in the forum and is saying for example, that he/she is writing, reading something, but not what he/she is writing. I worked long ago, for some years, as a Global Moderator for a big Gaming Site with thousands and thousands of users, and this feature is really a big help. Anyone, who doesn't had the luck to work with this feature, doesn't understand the meaning of it and that this is really harmless and very helpful at the same time. Anyways, since as i mentioned at my last post, that i'm accepting and respecting the decision and that i'll live with that, i thought, that this "case" (request) is finished and could be closed, because of that "clear" statement from the authorities to this feature. This "case" were already closed for me personally, because, i said, that i'm respecting it, so i thought, i don't need have to come back to this thread. But after reading this "sarcastic" comment, i couldn't resist to "moderate" it with my personal opinion to it. And please, don't see it as an insult against any of you, that's not the meaning of my reaction to it. Everyone has the right to speak and to have their own opinion and i'm respecting that. I only wanted to give my personally opinion to it, because of the positive experiences i had with this feature. And i'm not forcing anyone, to have the same sights and opinions as me, that would not be right in any way, as i said, i'm respecting the different opinions from others. I only had the feeling of needs, to "defense" myself, because of the positive experiences with it. lol Again, as i already said, i'm respecting the decisions. And hope, that we can now close this, before it's all maybe getting worse in some ways or the other (i experienced that a lot in the past, at my job as GM lol), so that this thread will be staying in a "good mood" at closing it, as long as it is at the moment. Very best regards, Pecar

Where does it end though? V4 used to tell you how many people were viewing a board, and that was upped to listing them. Immediately people clamored to have it list which thread they were in. If that was given, they would want which post they were reading, or what they were writing, how long they been doing that? Can we get a history if the last 10 actions they did on the board?
That level of detail becomes useless after a while anyways... Why was that person spending the last 10 minutes reading the last post if that thread? Did I not write it well enough? Did I use too many big words? Should I have cited references? Meanwhile that person is in the kitchen making a sandwich
And I can insult an idea all day if I want... It's up to you if you take it personally. You just happened to be the most recent person to make that particular request

Not at all to fuel any debate that might be an undercurrent here, but I do want to add that I was a part of a myBB forum that literally listed exactly what I was looking at in my profile for anyone to see. It made me kind of... I don't know, nervous and weird-feeling sometimes, almost self-conscious. I'd avoid doing something I thought would look really stupid, like "Elf is viewing his own profile" (because that would happen x.x) While at first I had thought it'd be nice to be able to poke around who is doing what, once it was actually a spotlight on me I really didn't like it. -shudder-
That's just my two cents/experience! =)

I think wormopolis was definitely being a wise prick to pecar. There was no need for that senseless sarcasm. And I have seen it requested here several times! I think that it should be allowed if you ask me. An invasion of privacy!? How bad is it going to insult your privacy if I know what you are viewing?! I believe that most people prefer this option because they like to see who (if anybody) is viewing their post. I think that if ya did some research on this matter, you'll find that many people prefer the "What people are viewing" option.

When the "no" is followed by a "why", then other tactics might be employed
And you can't say you "will find most people" will apply to anything without actually doing a poll. Otherwise it is just YOU applying your OWN preference to the subject.

When the "no" is followed by a "why", then other tactics might be employed ^wise guy Anyway, I made a poll. Also, I made the assumption from my own experience at other websites. It was never a problem anywhere else, and it was used by most members. ^Lol, you could see that by opening the log. Maybe people here feel different about the issue. We'll see. It's going your way so far. In any case, OP was being respectful and was obviously genuinely curious. Didn't have to treat him like a dummie.

I think this discussion has run its course once again. There are people who feel strongly on both sides of the issue, both for and against. I won't drop my own opinion here since I'm locking this and I don't think it's fair to leave an opinion and not let others respond in kind.
The official response is thus:
We do not currently output this kind of data, so a plugin cannot be created to track it. We have no plans on implementing this level of detail beyond the current "Users Online" and "Users Online in the Last 24 Hours" at this time.
