DownloadThis plugin will let you set permissions for your custom fields to restrict their usage based on group or post count. You can also add descriptions to your custom fields so you can properly explain what each field is for. Simply type the name of your custom field into the plugin's Permissions tab to hide it, then choose the requirements for it to show. To add a description to a custom field, visit the Descriptions tab and type your custom field's name there, then type a description in the text box. Enjoy! Preview

Brian, if I were looking to make none of them show up for a member who is not sorted into a member group at all, would there be a way to do that?

So long as a custom field is on the list, it won't show up unless the user has met the prerequisites you've specified. You simply need to list all of those fields and give them permissions.

Hmmm... maybe I did something wrong. I have almost every custom profile field in the plugin all divided up correctly, then I logged into my test account that doesn't have any member group assigned to it, went to edit profile, and saw all of the custom profile fields possible. I'll double-check things..

Ok, got it working but wasn't exactly what I was hoping for.
Is there anyway that instead of limiting people from entering data into a custom field based on group/post count, I would prefer to limit who can see the custom field information based on group/post count.
We only want active members to be able to see the custom field information.

From what I see, this in intended to limit the ability of members to enter data into a custom field in the Edit Profile page.
I want members to be able to add the information there, but what I am looking for is a way to limit who can see it in the profile and mini-profile. We don't want guests to see the information entered into the custom fields.

You'd be correct there. In that case, that's something my plugin doesn't cover.
That would be much better accomplished as a layout template modification, which can prevent all custom fields from showing to guests.

That's an easy layout template modification through the use of {if} statements targeting members. If you post in Layout Templates, I can help you out with that, Bolerro

Thanks for the replies Brian and Elf. I will work on the template mod and see what happens... I may be back after I really mess it up

Alrighty, Brian, I've finally gotten around to double-checking this and it does appear to not be working correctly. If I set a profile field to show only for certain groups, anyone in a group that is not included cannot see the profile field: that works perfectly. However, if they are not in a group at all, they can see ALL the fields. I don't know if it's something I did wrong in the plugin settings but they should not be seeing any of the profile fields I have listed in the plugin whatsoever if they are not in a member group, rather than seeing every single one. x.x' If I did something wrong in the settings, please let me know what =/

Found the problem, ₪» ⅀ ƪ Ƒ «₪. I didn't add a check for no groups when the plugin grabs them all. Check the plugin library later this week for version 1.0.1 once it's accepted.

I did the update and I haven't gotten them to show up at all. All groups are able to see all fields except their not showing. Do you need to put a html text box in the description in order for it to show, or does it automatically do it by itself?
