For those who have a dire need to be able to prove whether or not someone has viewed a PM, here's a very very beta plugin I just came up with that will force an automatic reply when a new PM has been opened, but only in a few circumstances. It only works if these conditions are true: a. There are two participants in the conversation - I.E. you, and your recipient. Any more than two and no automatic reply will be made. b. It's a new conversation, and you've only sent one PM. If you send two PMs one-after-the-other, even if the other person hasn't seen them, you will not be notified of when the PM was opened for the first time. Things to note:- The reply you will receive is: "I've just opened this message for the first time. (This PM has been sent automatically.)"
- Staff members are exempt and will not have PMs sent automatically.
- Some may not be happy that a script has made a PM on their behalf.
To test this, send a PM to another non-staff account of yours and then switch accounts and check it. Screenshot: View AttachmentYes! Works perfectly to. Epicness!

This would be great, we had it at our old site. I had a member say they didn't get a warning pm. Be nice to know if they just ignored their pms or lied.

My apologies, blc - I removed the aforementioned plugin when I realized it went against one of our developer policies to disallow the automatic submission of posts on members' behalf. I've been looking into alternative solutions for this that are more in line with what we allow.

My apologies, blc - I removed the aforementioned plugin when I realized it went against one of our developer policies to disallow the automatic submission of posts on members' behalf. I've been looking into alternative solutions for this that are more in line with what we allow. Then I would go back you just having it so that the sender can see if their message was read/opened. We used the little oval like the particpated oval. if it was unopened it remained colored, when it was opened it went clear. I'm going to go into an aside here that is sort of related. ToS doesn't allow for the automatic submission of a post on a member's behalf but the ToS doesn't have a problem with none staff members of a forum replacing the words that other member's write with their own words. ToS doesn't allow for completely removing the invisible option, but ToS allows putting words in someones mouth they didn't say. Some things are just whack. I realize you weren't in the other thread, but this thread just reminds me of it.

Do note that our terms of service agreement differs from the developer guidelines - while you're expected to abide by both, one governs general use of the ProBoards service and the other only governs certain aspects of plugin development to ensure that plugin creators move forward with their projects with the user experience in mind. With that said, I know there's a lot of demand for this feature so I'm going to do what I can to look into an alternative that heeds the dev guidelines.

ToS in both cases should protect the members, and that should include their words not being replaced by other non staff members that are just being jerks. just saying. It's not urgent for me, but i can see where other sites might have a greater need for it. Can I pm you on something? Not related to either of these and I'd rather not post it.
