First/Last Name as User Name

Hello all!  As you can see this is my first post on the board here, but I'm seeking the assistance of you wonderful professionals.  First off, I apologize for not having much experience with forum coding, etc, I just happened to be the most "techie" in the group assigned to this task.

I am a member of a workers union organization and we have chosen to create a forum for members to discuss ongoing issues, receive news and updates, etc.  One of the ideas that was brought up and that we would like to see happen is that as members register for the forum that they insert their First and Last name, along with email address, password, etc.  Then their First and Last name become their displayed username.  We would like it to operate this way so that other members know who is posting, etc., rather than everyone have to learn each others new handles.  We would have approx 150-200 members.

I apologize ahead of time if something like this is already out there, I did my best to search for anything that would work.

You can manually change your display name (the name that shows up when you post and such) to whatever you want so you could just ask them to make it their first and last name, if you'd prefer. Likewise, you could ask them to make their username (what they log in with) their firstnamelastname (it wouldn't have spaces or capitals) just to be even clearer.

For what a Plugin can do, I'm not sure. I don't know if there's a way to get the first and last name of a member and automatically change the display name to it. It might be something that has to be done manually like I suggested but I will wait to see if a plugin creator can provide an actual confirmation on either side since I don't know =)

 I did see the options to manually change display names, but as much as we trust our members, I get the feeling that some knuckleheads would try to be a little humorous and not abide by what we are asking.  The one option we have thus far is to change it to the firstnamelastname without spaces, unless one of the great creators here can come up with what we are looking for.  Thanks!

You can set it so staff must approve accounts. If they don't follow your registration rules, then don't approve their account.
