Brian
Brian as I said yesterday I use Todge's image resize plugin and I just installed this plugin on my test forum for a look to see if it Todge's plugin would resize the photo that was put in with your plugin and it appears it won't?
scootproftest.freeforums.net/thread/5/again
I set the plugin of yours to original and the size of this photo is 1024px X 678px and Todges plugin resizes the exact same photo to 480px X 360px with the setting I put in there. Of course I can set your plugin to the same but my concern is if someone puts a small photo in it will distort the photo? Could you make it work with the other plugin? If not I'll set it to 480px X 360px like the other plugin.
Brian is it possible to do a plugin like this for videos as well?
Thanks awesome plugin!
Edit: I just put a smaller image in and I see it does not enlarge but only downsizes if the image is bigger than the image setting you put in the plugin. So that's not a issue and neither plugin interfere with each other which is nice because of course this plugin won't resize photos already put on the forum the standard way.
So I'll just set it the same as the settings in my image resize plugin.
Thanks
Maybe the videos? Resizing the image doesn't affect the quality unless you make it larger than its original resolution. My plugin will not scale the images up. It simply sets a limitation on the dimensions of automatically linked images and scales them down if they exceed that limitation. You can resize videos with CSS. You don't need a plugin for that.

BrianOh I wasn't wanting to resize videos Brian was wondering if a plugin could be made to auto embed them like the images? Thanks There's already a setting in your admin area. That's what inspired this plugin in the first place. Automatically turn image links on your forum into images without the need for BBCode, similar to the auto-embed video feature.

Brian, I installed your plug-in a couple of days ago, and love it. However, several people access our forums from their phones and they tell me that they only see the link, not the image. This caused me to take a look at the BBCode that was generated, and I was surprised to see that you aren't simply recognizing an image from the file extension and adding the proper img tags to the URL at the time of posting. Is this something that can be done? If so, that should make your plug-in universal, I'd think.

Is this something that can be done? If so, that should make your plug-in universal, I'd think. There's a lot of specifics that go into that such as checking around the image URL to ensure it's not actively encased in [img] tags already or that it's not being used as part of an element's inline CSS. This was also a lot easier to develop simply because I could just go through each of the <a> tags in each post instead of creating a regular expression for image URLs. Plus, doing that instead of converting them on the fly would make the plugin's effects irreversible instead of how it is now where you can just disable it and they'll change back to links. I don't do a lot of thinking about mobile users when creating plugins because most of my plugin ideas don't affect them in the slightest.

Nice idea though of thinking of the reversable option. XD Although personally.. I wish there was an option to do the irreversible method as knowschad suggested. Mainly because, everyone on my forum loves posting images and I think they really would have no reason to post a direct image link without the bbcodes. lol

Yeah, I guess I can see the reversibility issue. I hate it though, when I install a new plug-in, thinking that everybody is going to love it, and then start getting complaints from those that access the site from their phones.

One of our members reported that he cannot see the images posted with the use of this plugin. He can see those that are hosted on Photobucket and other such sites, but for some reason the plugin doesn't seem to be working for him. He's using a desktop to access our forum, not a mobile device. I'm trying to get more information from him but he doesn't come on very often.
Any ideas what the problem could be? No other issues have been reported with this plugin.

I'd need links to any posts it's not working on as well as the name of the browser they're using before I'd be able to diagnose it.

Thank you I PM'd him asking for additional info, including the browser. The first post on this page is an example of a post on which the plugin is not working for him. It's working perfectly for me on both Chrome and Firefox. I even tried it on IE and Opera, both of which are outdated on my computer because I never use them. I had no problems viewing the images on those browsers either.

Problem solved! It was a simple matter of updating Firefox. This plugin really works wonders and is a great addition to our forum Thanks for the help, and sorry for bothering you needlessly.

Sorry for the dumb question, but I don't understand what this plug-in is supposed to do or how to use it.
What I did was create a thread, then pasted an image URL into it. When viewed, the post contained a link that showed the image when it was clicked on.
I then installed the plug-in and repeated the same experiment, and the results were the same. I was sort of expecting the link to be magically turned into a thumbnail, but that didn't happen.
Please explain what it is intended to do and how to use it correctly.

I think that is what I did do (please read my post). After installing the plug-in and then pasting in an image URL into a post, the URL still presented as just that, a string.
