Here's another search issue. I'm trying to search by phrase, so I only want posts with that exact phrase in it. My results are coming up with just words from the phrase, not the ENTIRE phrase I'm searching for.
For example, this phrase I'm looking for is "use me as your cardigan" and my results are every post with the word "cardigan" in it. Also, I tried excluding other words but they come up in the replies.
When I use the "all the words" instead of "phrase" I get the same results.
Is this a known bug, or?
thanks

Hey Lady Squid - first things first, I've restarted the search server your forum uses. Did that take care of the error?

It seems like I post about the search server not responding just about every weekend?? The "phrase" issue still exists though.

The search server that your forum makes use of has been a bit spotty lately and requires a restart every once in a while. Usually we try to do it every now and again when we see there are pending issues, but often we need to be reminded when we don't check frequently enough.
Our sysadmin is aware of the system's inconsistency, and he's made plans to take a look at the underlying problem to improve overall performance.
For the phrase issue, can you link me to the post you're trying to find (if you were able to find it, that is) and then let me know what terms you were using during searching that weren't working as you expected?

I'm glad to hear they're going to try to improve the search server's performance. I am a heavy "search" user and like I said, nearly every weekend there seems to be a problem. I didn't find the post I was looking for. The search I was performing was listed in the earlier post. I tried it with "with all the words" and "with the phrase" and then "with the phrase" using quotation marks around the phrase itself, then tried the "phrase" excluding certain words, all getting identical results. If I'm using "with the phrase" then I shouldn't be getting 25 pages of results, every page showing "cardigan" without the rest of the phrase. I should only be getting results with the phrase for which I"m searching.

Lady Squid, I believe the issue is mostly attributed to your phrase containing both short words and common words that are omitted in searches. In your particular case the word "cardigan" is likely the only word that's going through in the actual search.

MTA: I had hoped that by placing quotation marks around the phrase, it would be forced to incorporate the smaller words?

Refining your search to use less common terms would be your best bet.

Refining your search to use less common terms would be your best bet. Understood, but the phrase I was looking for was a title, so I hoped to be able to search for it. Is there any other option, since the quotation marks do not work? thanks for your help squid

Ok, I'll make a mental note not to search for the phrase "To Be or Not To Be" as it would come up with every post. LOL
Just kidding, thank you for your help.
