I added this to my website and couldn't get it to work...No sword pops up at all on the forums. Any way to troubleshoot that?

Did you specify which groups on the forum could use your NPCs in the NPC List tab? If your group isn't explicitly permitted to use any of the NPCs on the list no icon will come up.

BrianSorry for bumping this thread, but is there a way to make the Hover Image change. There is a standard Image for it but in every profile you can fix it with Hover Image: link. For the NPC's that is not possible (To edit their profile) I tried to make it a user.mini_custom_field]}{if $[user.mini_custom_field.name] = Hover Image. So I named the value Hover Image and value_id: user.mini_custom_field.name.value] That didn't fix nor solve it. So is there a way to give every NPC a different Hover?

No need to apologize for bumping the thread. The entire purpose of the thread being here is for you to bump it whenever necessary to ask questions regarding the plugin. The hover images you're talking about are likely controlled by your theme's HTML and CSS (that's how most hover image template mods work). When you install the NPC Profiles plugin it uses the default mini-profile template, but you can modify that in the plugin's settings to more closely match your theme's mini-profile. I would recommend creating a post in the Templates board for help with this particular customization.

I don't have a question or an issue, I just wanted to thank you for the data attributes you added to account for template modifications. I thought I was going to have to make heavy edits to the script, but you made it so easy and I super appreciate it. (Also, thank you for making the plugin editable.)

Hi I started a new forum and added your amazing NPC plugin, but sadly I am not able to add fields to the Mini-Profile on the forum. (I used to have version 1.1.3) I would like to add more fields to the NPC profile. I have installed the NPC Mini-profile plugin you meantioned in your first post, but I am not sure what to do next so I can fill in other fields. Do I make a full field for a NPC in the extra plugin in HTMLcode? My website is De Reizigers

Hi, so I'm having a lot of trouble with getting the custom mini profile to work with the mini-profiles plug-in.
It has the outline of the custom mini profile, but a lot of code too. Is there any way to remedy this?
Thank you in advance!

Forgive me Brian if this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find the answer.. Is there a way to make it so users can only apply NPCs to their own posts? Presently I have a role playing member group meant for the users able to access the role playing NPCs (all users are meant to have access to all NPCs.) I have every NPC in the NPC List listing that member group as being able to use the NPCs. Under the Permissions tab, I have the "Custom" option on the dropdown for who can write to everything, the "Users can write to their own content:" checkbox ticked, and under "And members in the groups:" I have the role playing group added (even though I don't really understand what anything in the "Plugin Keys" part of the permissions does, I've tried playing with them and haven't noticed any differences yet.) With these settings, members can make posts and use all of the NPCs they have access to, but they can change the NPCs on not only their own posts, but everyone elses' posts as well. Have I configured something wrong? Or is it supposed to do that? I don't really like the idea of one user being able to change the NPC on another user's post... Thanks in advance for your input.

Is there a way to make it so users can only apply NPCs to their own posts? Presently I have a role playing member group meant for the users able to access the role playing NPCs (all users are meant to have access to all NPCs.) I didn't add any functionality that would impose this kind of limitation. No matter how I write the plugin or which components I added to the plugin settings any user who is part of a group that has permission to write to the plugin key and knows how the plugin API works will always be able to manipulate the plugin key data of posts not authored by them through the use of the browser's console because I can't change how plugin key permissions are enforced beyond the key permissions component. Technically speaking, the Who can use this NPC? column of the NPC List is useless for this same reason. It just determines what shows in the NPC dropdown for those particular groups. Nothing would stop a user who has permission to write to the key from using any NPC they want through the aforementioned method. I have every NPC in the NPC List listing that member group as being able to use the NPCs. Under the Permissions tab, I have the "Custom" option on the dropdown for who can write to everything, the "Users can write to their own content:" checkbox ticked, and under "And members in the groups:" I have the role playing group added (even though I don't really understand what anything in the "Plugin Keys" part of the permissions does, I've tried playing with them and haven't noticed any differences yet.) Plugin keys hold data that gets saved alongside the type of content the plugin key affects. This data can be accessed later through the use of JavaScript, the main language that makes the plugin's functionality work. The NPC Profiles plugin uses a post key so each post can have its own plugin key data saved alongside it. When you use the dropdown next to a post or on the posting page it saves the username of the NPC you selected to the key data for that post. The key permissions you specify in the plugin determine whether or not certain users can overwrite a post's plugin key data. With these settings, members can make posts and use all of the NPCs they have access to, but they can change the NPCs on not only their own posts, but everyone elses' posts as well. Have I configured something wrong? Or is it supposed to do that? I don't really like the idea of one user being able to change the NPC on another user's post... For the reasons stated earlier the permissions you have set will still allow users in those groups to write to the key data of any post on the forum. Users can write to their own content determines if a user that's not part of any of the groups you've already specified can write to the plugin key data of their own posts. This doesn't impose the same restriction on the groups you've already granted permission to. Those groups will still be able to write to the key data of any post.

Okay I think I understand now. I changed some settings and things seem to be working as I wanted; players have access to all of the NPCs and even though they can see the button on all of the posts, they can only change the displayed NPC on their own posts. Thank you for your help, much appreciated!

A few questions / possible requests.
I was thinking of using this plugin in lieu of having "canon characters" make an account like they would for an original character.
The reason for this is, if Player A no longer wishes to play Canon Character, I don't want to lose the account or chronology of the posts involving said character. My preference would be to have something built into the software, but ownership is a tricky beast.
To that end:
1. Can an NPC be limited to a one person availability, or would I literally have to create a member group for each individual character?
2. Can the "post as" button be removed from the PBN and into the post editor directly? (Quick reply not needed, will be disabling)
3. Is there a way to find all post and threads by [character] regardless of which account made it / even if some accounts are deleted?

1. Can an NPC be limited to a one person availability, or would I literally have to create a member group for each individual character? Each NPC would have to have an individual group created for it to fulfill the purpose you're seeking. 2. Can the "post as" button be removed from the PBN and into the post editor directly? (Quick reply not needed, will be disabling) If you inspect the one in the PBN bar it has an ID assigned to it that can be targeted with CSS. It's also possible to go into the Build section of the plugin and add a display: none; rule to that ID there. The same should apply to the one on the posting page using its class name instead. 3. Is there a way to find all post and threads by [character] regardless of which account made it / even if some accounts are deleted? Nope. The search server doesn't index plugin key data tied to forum content. I think the general idea when I created the plugin was to find a way around the problem where two staff members of the forum needed access to a single character account that wasn't heavily used and whose primary function was posting announcements or other similar things.

Brian Mind if I PM you to hash out some of my ideas? The NPC plugin may not be the best thing for what I'm thinking of, but I'm not sure how to accomplish (if I can) otherwise.
