Forum URL: seasons.boards.net/Hi - I hope I can explain this properly. Maybe a picture will help. We change themes fairly frequently and set each new theme as the new Default. Each time there is a new Default, my members are informed. The problem is that some of them find it a nuisance having to edit their profile to change over to the new Default theme. I am wondering if it is possible to have a setting where a member can choose "Default", so that whenever the Default is changed, they will automatically go onto the new Default Theme, without having to edit their profile. Another problem - you'll see in my screenshot [arrow #1.] There is already a theme named 'Default' at the top, which is the standard blue and white Proboards theme. I have it deselected ATM. The default that members can choose is at [arrow #2.]. To get on this theme, they must edit their profile and choose the name 'Hearts'. To repeat, I'm wondering if there is a setting that they could choose that would keep them on the default theme automatically, no matter which theme is chosen as Default. I have seen in some forums that there is a listing for 'Default', which can be ticked by members. We don't seem to have that on our forum - except for 'Default' at the top [arrow #1], which brings us to the blue and white PB's theme only and does not represent the theme we have marked as Default. Hope that does not sound too complicated! Please help. Many thanks in advance.

I think the only way you could do what you're asking is to deselect all the other themes and only leave the one you've set as default. That forces everyone to use that one specific theme.

Thanks 'just another guest'! I understand what you are saying. I really don't want to narrow down the members' choice to just one theme. I'm attempting to cater for the lazy ones that don't like taking the time to edit their profiles in order to load up the new Default theme! LOL!

Perhaps you could remove some of the work users have to go through by adding something like a drop-down list to the navigation menu that contains the different edit user options. All people would have to do is click on the link "settings" in the drop-down menu and then change the theme. At least then they don't have to click Profile > Edit Profile > Settings.

Good suggestion, Kurisu! I think I may have seen something like that somewhere. Nevertheless, I'm still hoping there is a 'Default' choice that people can make on a once off basis, and then they will get each new Default as it comes up, without having to do anything! Maybe I'm asking for too much!

The Theme Changer plugin (in the plugin library) makes changing themes quicker. You will also need to install the Yootil Library plugin to use the Theme Changer.

Thanks for that, Tressa. I think I've come across that. It might improve things, but it's still not what I'm looking for. Many thanks, anyway.

Hi, My only suggestion would be disabling all the other themes to force users onto your new "default" theme. Beyond that the suggestions of the other users seem more than ample to me.

I appreciate all the answers, but none of them have really given me the solution I was looking for. Thank you.
I'm certainly not going to disable all of my other themes, leaving them with no choice.

You don't have to disable them permanently. Disabling them all except for your default theme then turning them all back on will force all the users to your new default theme while still granting them access to use your other themes.

Thanks, Brian! I don't want to "force" any of my members to do anything. What I had in mind, was a way in which members could opt to be always on the Default theme - their own choice. Maybe if there was a way they could choose "No theme", then they would automatically be on the Default, same as guests. Just a thought.

The user would always be on whatever the forum currently has set to its default. I'll label this thread as a feature request then. LOL! I finally got through with my idea! Many thanks to all, who did their best to make helpful suggestions. In the meantime I have done some research as to what happens on my test forum regarding this, when a new member joins. After quite a bit of effort, I managed to register myself as a new member. I'm noticing that a newbie automatically goes on the Default Theme that's already set, before they make any choice. If they continue to make no choice, (i.e don't edit their profile and make a choice of theme) and the Default is changed, they are not moved on to the new Default, but stay on the original Default they were put on automatically when they joined. There seems to be a gap here, where possibly some change could be made. So, as things stand, if someone joins they are put onto the Default theme that's there at that time. If they never edit their Profile to choose a theme, they will stay on that theme forever, regardless of what new Defaults may be created after they have joined. It would be nice if there was a system there, that a new member, could at least be automatically moved onto new Default themes, as they come up, even if they never edited their profile and made a choice of their own. That is secondary, though to my original point - that some could opt to always be on the Default theme, without having to edit their profile, to make that move. It transpires now that there are two issues to be considered here in this question (a) the question of members being able to choose to always be on the Default, without having to edit their profile or, in fact, do anything at all, i.e. a button being provided so that they can choose this as a once-off choice. (b) the question of newbies, who don't make a choice by editing their profile, being moved on automatically to each new Default as it occurs, rather than staying forever on the first theme they are put onto. I would be very glad if this was looked into and made into a new feature, Brian. Many thanks, Everybody! I had realized this was going to be a toughie to explain, but finally you got it, Brian. :Bows!:
